They are used as spacers to keep the fly off the tent body in extreme weather conditions.

Those sponges are for cleaning the tent just prior to any photograph that includes the tent. That way it will show up in the best light.

Well, since fivepoint had already given a (what appears to me to be) correct answer, I had to improvise. Nice design idea.

I believe they are for cleaning as well as absorbing moisture in the tent to keep condensation to a minimum. That is just my 2 cents

yea, i understand your improvisation bill413, i didnīt have a clue about those sponges, not even TNF mention at all for what purpose are there...the best shot is the 5point4warriorīs one, because the sponges are made from rough plastic and are not absorbing liquids or if you use them to clean the best you can do is destroy the fabric īcause is a rough plastic. more ideas?

Dude the first answer was the correct one. Just beleive him. They are not to soak up mosture they are specifically designed not to soak up moisture. Jesus dude please dont ever use this tent where those spacers might acctually be usefull, or you will likely die. I assume you bought this tent for the campground at the local crag right? Yea they look cool but you would be better off with a fucking colman that you can stand up in.

Dude: In the first place I bought this tent to actually use it in those places where i need it...i mean those places (or situations) where you donīt want to be... Iīm not a crag boy, in fact i like alpinism much more than craging, and my older tent (a Ferrino Messner Series Maverick, a 4 season tent) broke down after a ferosious blizzard in a lonely 6000 in Salta Argentina, when i was climbing with my girl alone. Sorry for you man, i often go to places where these tents are needed, and is not the local crag. v.
