I was watching the Patagonia video with Steve House describing the gear he used on Nanga Parbat...and I cant figure out what boots he had there. I looked and looked, but no luck. Anyone have any ideas? --Andy P

I'm pretty sure those are the new La Sportiva boots, the Spantiks.

They are the La Sportiva Spantik in the Patagonia video. However, in a post I wrote asking about this issue (that I can't find) someone told me that House actually used Nuptse's on the mountain. But they were stolen along with other gear. La Sportiva then replaced the stolen boots with the newer Spantik. Whether it's true or not I have no knowledge. Remember that when choosing boots there are only three things to remember: FIT, FIT, and Color. Best, Kim

Best, Kim I think he was using nuptse's when him and Prezelj did the north face of north twin. the spantik's look really nice, though!

In his photos you can clearly see that he was actually wearing Nuptses. In the video he shows Spantiks. A lot of their gear was stolen/left behind.

they are the spantiks, and they are a dream. i snagged a pair from zappo's for under $500, and they are truly amazing. probably too hot for most use, but super-comfy and pretty dextrous.

hey, i ordered a pair of spantiks from zappos too along with the nuptses (going to return one pair). suggestions or thoughts on why you choose the spanitks over the nuptses (or to anyone else, why i should choose one or the other) thanks, daniel

i chose the spantiks because they are supposedly better climbing boots, as opposed to walking boots. i also really like the lacing system. last weekend i climbed some WI 5 in them and they were great, but a bit on the warm side. i then wore them for the 2.5hr drive home, and they were fine, but my feet were pretty hot by the time i got home...
