Routes Database Changes

Hi everyone,

We've made the following changes to the Routes Database:
  • From now on, any registered user can add countries, regions, areas/gyms, and sections directly into the database, without having to wait for Editor approval. Similar to our philosophy with individual routes however, the modification of existing data still needs editor involvement, and will continue to be done via our system of editor notes.

  • We have expanded the use of the direct field update functionality, allowing anyone to quickly and easily enter data for blank fields in the routes database.

We accept the fact that this arrangement is going to cause some duplicates and other problems we might need to clean-up afterwards. Nevertheless, we believe the benefit far outweighs the cost: the user experience should be greatly improved (not having to wait to get data added), and there will be far less hassle for editors.

Whenever a new category is added, an automatic e-mail notification will be sent to the editor such that he/she can review the new data and make corrections if necessary. I also want to call on all users to please let us know if you see data that is inaccurate or missing. Send a PM or "editor note" to the editor for the particular location, found at the bottom of each page in the Routes Database. You can also find the full list of editors here.

Please note that we still have a backlog of about 160 "editor notes" that we need to enter into the database. These are submissions for new or updated countries/regions/areas/gyms/sections that users made prior to the change above. Unfortunately the change will not automatically clear the backlog. If you have submitted one of these "editor notes" and you are still waiting to see the data appear, you can either remain patient a little while longer, or enter the data yourself. If you choose to do it yourself, PLEASE send the relevant editor as well as me a PM so that we can deleted your original "editor note" from the backlog.

Daniel
