I was just doing a search about ropes. I was looking for a 70m 10.2 or 10.5 with a low impact force like Beal ropes ( like Top Gun 10.5 ) I couldn't find any. Now I'm just wandering if there is a reason why 10.2 or 10.5 don't come in 70m length. Would you guys/gals know of any manufacturers that make them ? Thanks

edelweis makes a cheap 70 meter (like $130), in a 10.3, which I think is waaaaay to thick. The marathon Pro (10.1) is probably the thickest rope I would buy.

Yeah a 10.5 70m rope would be on the far side of heavy...think...plutonium. I have a 9.7 70m blue water lightning pro, and I wish it was a 60m about 90% of the time. the extra 10m really doesnt do much for you, since if you have to rap longer that 30m, it is usually longer than 35m and will need two ropes, and few pitches are longer than 60m nowadays... Just my opinion though, there are probably places where a 70m would be about as good as it gets...

Are you going to mail order the rope from the states in hopes to save money? Unless you find a killer deal the shipping, tarrifs and exchange rate will kill you. What was wrong with the 4 sub 10mm 70m ropes on MEC? Too skinny? Dude, on long routes (where you might actually want a 70m rope) skinny ropes are your friend.

That extra 10m can come in handy when you let newbies ice climb on your rope and they take a chunk out with a misplaced tool. You can thent cut off the damaged section and end up with a 60m rope. BTW, I have the Beal Flyer II in a 70m length - bought it at MEC for about $220 Cdn.

70m's can be awesome, but most of the place that I climb at it doesn't make much sence. Frank at Devils Tower swears by them, and I could see how they'd be awesome there.

The thing that got me about MEC was that they don't have any ropes bigger then 10mm in 70m length, hence the reason for this thread. I ended up getting Beal Booster 9.7 70m bi-pattern for $202.98 and shipping is free at MEC on any order over $150.00 Sweet. Should be here in 5-6 days. Rebecca: I did notice the killing factor when I wanted to get some cams ( Pre C4 Camalots .2 and .1 ) from USA. Thanks to all that replied.
