For you XC Ski enthusiasts, we got in 10-12 miles yesterday off of 285 and Jefferson (by Mt. Guyot). The entire valley looks dry but head up CR 35 to 54 to Georgia Pass and you'll be deep in powder.

These hut trips sounds excellent.
Finally got some cross country skis and boots and tried them out near Fairplay on Sunday. It was snowing all day and our tracks were comepletely covered by the time we turned back to the truck. Such a good time. Got some breakfast at the Brown Burro in the afternoon.

hey gary,
turns up at berthoud look good.
i got out on sun at cameron. found some new terrain. we were knee deep in the soft fluffy stuff! there is definitely some rad terrain up there. when i learn it some more you guys should come up!

Leadville to Aspen (Uncle Bud's, Skinner, Betty Bear)
Hello all,
I am trying to sell two (2) last-minute open spots on a four-day hut trip between Leadville and Aspen. This is an amazing opportunity for a last minute trip for anyone who can take Thursday and Friday off from work. My brother Mark and I are pretty modest skiers and the trip is not technically difficult, but it involves a lot of travel and crosses the continental divide. The cost is $120 per spot including transportation or $90 without transportation (you may purchase one or both), and the spots are offered on a first come, first served basis. If we have not sold both of these spots by this Wednesday afternoon, we will entertain pro-rated offers for one or two nights.

Description:
This is a 4 day 3 night trip that starts in Leadville and ends in Aspen. The days will run approximately 7 miles and several thousand feet of elevation change, so it is a somewhat rigorous journey. Also the third day crosses the continental divide at Hagerman Pass (11,925 ft), so there may be some weather related complications (WIND). If you are travelling with Mark and I, the trip will require skis or splitboard (not snowshoes) and beacons which can all be rented from bent gate in golden. You may pool for food with us or provide your own. This will require two business days off of work (Thursday and Friday).
Dates:
February 1-4, 2007
Itinerary:
Thursday morning we will be driving from Boulder to Leadville where we leave our car with the owner of the Hostel there. Then "Wild Bill", as he calls himself will drive us to the trail head at Turquoise lake, just outside Leadville. We will travel to and spend the night at Uncle Bud's Hut. Then Friday we will travel to and overnight at Skinner Hut. Then Saturday we will cross the divide and overnight at Betty Bear hut. Then Sunday we will ski out and "Wild Bill" will meet us at a trail head outside Aspen and drive us back to our car in Leadville and we can drive home. Sounds like an amazing trip. I would be all over this, but have other plans for this date. If anyone can take the OP up on this jump on it.
Rocknap, you may (if you haven't already) want to post this over at TGR, TTips, and Splitboard.com. Lot's of bc users hang out in those forums. I think you would have a much greater chance of finding someone there.

I would love if someone would teach me about snow sense (science). I snowboard double blacks at steamboat and I am a certified National Ski Patrol member. I belong to the midwest though. I am currently attending CSU in Fo Co and I am w/o a car.
I would like to know also if it would better to by snowshoes or use my old x-country skis for snow travel. I am thinking snowshoes would work a lot better.
I also have the Colorado pass if anyone wants to hit up breck or keystone

A splitboard would be ideal for touring around in the backcountry snowboard style. If not snowshoes will work, but they do limit you a big out here. With the cold temps, the snow does not always provide a solid base. So you end up sinking to your waste with shoes on. Ski's do a much better job of keeping you on top of the snow. I am not sure what you mean by xc ski's but approach ski's will work.
For avy classes. Check out [url=http://www.berthoudpass.org/]Friends of Berthoud Pass. The do a great on snow clinic for around $30. All you have to do is attend a free "refresher clinic" held at various locations along the front range and in the mountains. That qualifies you to sign up for the on snow session. The refresher courses should start up in October, the on snow session is in mid to late Jan.

Just moved to Boulder and looking for some bouldering partners (not nearly as interested in sport or trad). Used to climb V4/V5 but took 2 years off.
I don't have a job yet, so I'm ready to go anytime. Just hoping to find a few new peeps who can inspire me to get better again.

I CAN'T wait for vacation! There is a shop in Dillon that sells used stuff, and I can't remember the name of it. Seems like they had a store in Frisco, too. Anyway, any of you guys know if they have a website? BTW, I'm looking for a pair of BD's with some Fritschie's, about 175's or so. I'll be there in November, hope to see some of you around!

Well time to bring this thread back from the dead. It has been puking in the Front Range mountains. Something like 50" of snow back in Butler Gulch this weekend. Stupid deep. Reports are that Bert is getting pretty good. Not sure about Vail Pass. I'll probably be hitting Bert this Saturday. Winterpark is reporting 11.5" today. Bert typically gets 5-10" more. I think it's going to be very good there on Saturday.

I just moved don't know a lot about here from SoCal and I the backcountry. I got a place up Coal Creek Canyon near Wondervu and I am going to start exploring the Indian Peaks area. I snowboard/snowshoe, and I just bought Rondene boots, and I am looking for bindings and skins. Anyway I need guidance:)
