  Hey, Check out the Stratos by Edelweiss
It's got all of what you need!!!
http://www.bittersweetgear.com/bittersweetgear/edstrat80cli.html BBCode u1 Start -->

However, if your "new" at climbing almost any 10.whatever will do... as you will probably abuse the crap out of it (like I did) My friend who just started climbing bought the
Edelweiss Torrent 60 METER
they run about $129.00 But you could probably get it for less. The point is that you don't really want to break the bank on your 1st rope.
Once you start leading then you can upgrade and let your friends TR on your DOG's NEW LEASH, uh, I mean old rope!!!

i have a Pigeon Mountain Industries (PMI) rope and i like it a lot. it has taken a lot of abuse and it is still safe to climb with.

Mcfoley is right. The torrent a damn good rope at good price. I sell them in my beginner rope packages becasue they offer the best quality/value ratio of any rope out there. My price is $30 less than what Mcfoley quoted. Check it out.

Rope is rope is rope is rope. Any UIAA rated rope is as good as you need. Having said that I am quite fond of my Mammut (top roping, low stretch and tough) and Beal (lead climbing, soft catch and light weight) ropes.

i agree with geez. i like my blue water rope. what's pretty cool about it is that each half of the rope has a different sheath pattern so you definitly know where the middle of the rope is and how close you are to the middle.

Edelweiss are really nice. Probably the toughest, most durable ropes out there. I have a 100m x 9mm stratos that I use for double rope leading (tie in to the middle where the sheath changes from orange to purple) when I need to be able to do full 50m raps. Very nice.

I also own ropes my Mammut (50m x 11mm, 60m x 10.5mm) and Beal (60m x 9.4mm, and two 60m x 7.7mm) - all are really nice, with a soft, supple feel and good handling properties.

I started a climbing club at my university in the mid-90's, and we bought lots of ropes from Mammut, Blue Water, New England/Maxim, Sterling, and PMI. During that time, I think we had the best luck with Mammut, and Blue Water was a close second. The New England/Maxim and Sterling ropes all seemed to wear noticeable faster and didn't handle as nicely. PMI were somewhere in the middle. These were all used for top-rope only, by the way.

That's just my opinion and experience, for what it's worth.

I just bought the Edelweiss Torrent 10.5, 60M dry rope for about $100. Great value! The only bad thing is that it's not bipattern . Buy it at gearexpress, free shipping and fast! Bittersweet has horrible service!!! Bad experience with them. Takes them forever to process an order.
