well curt, that would be really chill if you sent him one.... its increadible that most of the time people waste their time to write 5 words that are completely worthless on this site. but if you get off by saying dumb shit and having people say "hell yeah dog that was funny" etc, then by all means peal one off for me

Verm is busy trying to get a state park for rock climbing started in BF AZ. I can tell you his work does not involve much climbing so he's in horrible shape and should soon be officially put out to pasture. He's basically in meetings and classes for the whole month of Feb. for example. When not trying to save the park from attacks by various anti climbing interests he has spent some time this winter teaching state parks people about climbing (and how to climb) so he's been rap bolting 5.4 sport climbs and thrashing like the beached whale he has come to resemble. I went to see him last weekend and it was the first time he's bouldered since he had his hips replaced in July. His recovery has been rough. He's probably packed on another 50 pounds too. I did see him pull off a V0+ sit down. It wasn't pretty. Yup the Old Verm will be riding off into the sunset any day now. I think he said something about writing for Urban Climber or maybe it was Armchair Climber. If anybody would like to make donations of food and XXL clothing I can see that he gets them at The Home. FWIW he's got about 6 issues of UC Mag at his place and reads them over and over again every morning for inspiration and as part of his weight loss program. He's literally flushing away the pounds.

I talked to him again tonight. He called me from his van while parked in some industrial area near Phx. He was pounding beers and scotch and just needed someone to talk to. The end is near I think.

I'll call him tomorrow and have him check for his pulse. He is taking a wilderness first responder course this week so he may now have the skills to detect his own pulse through the rolls of fat.

John Gill, i know you hit these boards, please tell us the story of the "verm". peace Contrary to some of what's been said, the Verm is recovering nicely from his double hip replacements, and has received the go-ahead from his Belgium doctor to return to bouldering - something that would not have been possible had he elected to have the standard replacement surgery provided in the US. He's down to 180 (at about 6'2", I'm guessing) and climbing very well, and looking forward to "hitting the boulders, but not the ground . . ."

Joe, I wish you hadn't posted that picture. Verm asked me not to mention his ongoing battle with Cerebral Palsy. Unfortunately the picture clearly shows the sorry state of The Verm. It is true that his weight has been coming down but mostly as a result of this serious dysfunction. It is inspiring to see the way Verm continues to pursue his love for climbing in spite of this affliction.

finally someone worth a shit....lol thats a compliment... anyways senior gill you should tell your boy if he is down to get back onto them boulders he is more than welcome to kick it here with us in the SLV. we dont go high ball (usually nothing over 15ft topouts) and nothing harder than V6, but it would be great, plus there is a brewery in town now so buying the man a beer would be better than anything on my tick list

The verm is cool and all, but if you wanted to come with some one that could really enlighten you my pick would be Gill. Yeah Verm has done alot for the sport but Gill, come on. I find it funny how you asked him for a story about some one else and not a story about himself. just my 2 cent

that there be the mt. woodson of arizona. after about 1,000 hours of scanning with google earth and a couple other searchable sat/image websites, and reviewing all the pics i have of the place with the plant biologists geologists, and geographers i work with, as well as consulting with several prominent naturalists here in flag at NAU, i think i finally figured out where that fuckin' place is...now all i need is a couple atv's and a trailer to haul 'em with...
