I always find myself working to get that darn etrier off something (a root, a horn, my head!) especially when I am walking on the base of the wall.

Maybe you solve this problem with some awesome trickery? please let me know.

I have the same problem with my rope! I tie in at the car, and then it gets snagged on everything as I walk to the crag! I can't think of a sensible solution.

Now granted I do not really aid climb, I just own some etriers because they make setting routes in a gym hurt alot less (can take some weight off your harness), and whenever I'm not using them I simply clip the main loop into the ballast loop at the bottom and they are now half their length and you can clip them to your harness and walk around without dragging them everywhere. If you don't have a bottom loop I guess you could clip into the bottom step for the same thing as well.

I'm all about just keeping them in a pack and when not I just flipem over a shoulder. The worst is getting a foot stock in some strange spot.

Clip the correct step and you can quickly turn it into 3rds. Clipping them to a chest harness helps as well.

When going aid -> free -> aid. Quick effective 'storage' and deploymnent is desirable.
