Per Philbox's request, this post has only one photo and it is hopefully embedded correctly. I deleted the last thread. Levels have been mildly adjusted and posted to a friend's webshots account. It was too dark to begin with since it was 6:30 or 7 am. This was taken on the Great White Icicle near Salt Lake City in early January. I have a few critiques of my own, but I'll wait to post them so as not to limit the criticism I recieve. Thanks. If it is not big enough, please let me know (or if it's too big).

I think the size is fine. I like the composition, but would have liked to see all of the climber, idealy his/her face.

For me, there is nothing that draws the eye one way to solve this would be contrasting colors besides just white and glassy white. A person's face would also be nice. I like what you are trying to do. The closeness of the ice on top leading to the climber to the ground. One suggestion might be using a burst (if not using flash) and take 3 or 4 shots at a time and delete the ones you don't like. Thats what I do. also you could pull out little bit more either the angle or the height of where you are taking the shot from.

What do you mean by "pull out a bit more either the angle or the height of where you are taking the shot from?" I tried to lean out as far as I could to get his face, but yeah, a burst there would have been good. Are there any other comments? Should I crop tighter on the left side?

overall you should decide what type of shot you are going for. If you crop more you are bringing the attention to the subject in a Porait style. Is a photo with no face visible, this is really hard to pull off. If you are trying for a landscape, you need to zoom way out and show the ice/route etc. If you are trying for an action shot, you will need more dynamic movement/emotional content. Axe swinging, ice shattering, a fall, etc. Decide that and it will remove a lot of the questions for you. If you can combine enough of those features and have enough detail, it will allow you to crop and have two different shots from one photo.
