Don't think of it as a car, think of it as an all weather motorcycle.

That gets 100MPG and does 100 MPH.

All reviews on the original, called The Carver, were excellent for ride comfort and space. Again, it's not a car, the testers all reported that the interior was surpisingly roomy, no shoulder rub or anything. No AC, but the top is removable so even in the summer, shouldn't be too warm.

For all the enviro-conscious types, it should be almost a no-brainer.

Cost is equivalent to a high end motorcycle, or low end car, but WAAAYYY cheaper than any other hybrid. Performance is somewhat less than most top-end motorcycles, but better than most cars and WAAAYY better than any other hybrid. Especially if you don't live in a snow area, the only place I haven't seen any test reports but I suspect it would have real trouble, then it could be a totally servicable year round commuter, and without a passenger in back, more than big enough to stop and get the groceries and a bottle of wine o the way home.

and 100+ Miles per gallon you could save hundreds a year in fuel costs.

Well, whether it's a no-brainer really depends on how you would be using the vehicle. Are you solo commuting or carpooling? Does your household have one vehicle, two, or more?

If you regularly drive with 3 or 4 people in your car, or two people plus some cargo, then a good hybrid car might be a better bet than two or three of these things.

Many if not most car buyers shop according to their peak requirements, which means they want a vehicle with the ability to do a certain task (carry 7 passengers, fit a bike in the back, tow a boat, etc) even if they will only do that task a small percentage of the time. This leads to lots of inefficiency. Incidentally I think that car-sharing services like FlexCar and Zipcar may prove to be game-changers in this regard, as people are able to cost-effectively borrow vehicles that meet their needs, when they need them.

In the meantime, a vehicle like this one could be a good second vehicle that allows greater efficiency while allowing a family to retain its larger car for those times that they need it.

Even though it's classified as a motorcycle, it meets the crash standard for cars. Has a full steel safety cage, roll bars, airbag, collapsable steering column... should do pretty well.

There's a big difference between meeting minimum safety standards and offering safety comparable to today's best cars. I think a helmet might a good idea in this thing.

Not dissing it... it's probably a lot safer than my bicycle, all else being equal. But then again, my bike doesn't manage 100 mph (even downhill).

Cars should be like climbing shoes... You buy four or five different ones and you use them for the specific purpose at hand. Duh!!!! I mean honestly, who hear can't afford a couple different cars? You know, an Excursion for trips to the mall with all you little kids friends, the 2-wd pickup with cap for roadtripping, a hatchback for grocery-getting, and the whateverthehellitis up top for day to day commuting. This is NOT a problem people! JEEZE!!

Well, again, it will be classified as a motorcycle, so it's safety camparable to a traditional bike should be significantly better and I said it would likely fare well against an average car, not neccessarily the "safest cars." That said, their goal is "to meet or exceed safety standards for traditional cars." So copared to my Ford Escort Commuter, should be comparable.

As for helmet, based on classification they might be required in states with helmet laws. (May require a motorcycle endorsement to drive, but I have one. ) But since the entire roof structure is a structural roll cage I'd say it's a bit safer than ayour average convertable.

Again, I look at this as a more user friendly motorcycle. Good on gas, fun to drive, easy to park. For people like me who commute 30 miles each way alone twice a day. It's not a grocery getter, every day driver.

Depends. You bringing the lovely missus, or just her brownies?Tongue

There is a cargo deck behind the rear seat

Looks like it could hold your average backpack and such. Room for 6 bags of groceries with the rear seat folded. They have plans for a roof mounted cargo box that could carry another 175lbs of cargo and they have just started experimenting with a small trailer hitch mounted on the non-pivoting part of the chassis that could potentially pull one of those small motorcycle trailers.
