I don't think the photo is fake. It's just not an injury sustained from climbing is what I think he is saying. When I thought it was a climbing injury, I was thinking you could do that if you got your finger wedged in a tight crack while falling or something.

They show a similar photo, with worse results, in a wilderness first aid course that I took a while ago. You're then asked how you would treat it.
Personally, I would walk, nay run, away.

I never said they were fake, but I don't think they are from climbing. And the original post never said they were. It just says "Warning don't climb while wearing a ring". The post I saw on RC long ago stated up front that the pics were from a Navy accident (or something of the like), and it still was enough to ensure that I never wear a ring while climbing, and caution others to the danger.

I think I am going to give up wearing a ring all together. The odd chance that something like that could happen under any circumstances is just about enough for me. I sent the pictures to the wife and she concurs. Rings obviously can produce some of the most heidiously disgusting injuries imaginable and should be avoided at all cost. That goes for all rings (wedding rings, friendship rings, cock rings, etc.) The wedding ring is permantly going in the sock drawer... in fact, I am seriously considering throwing out the kids' hula hoop in the garage.
These f'in things are worse than bear traps and gonorrhea combined. Gross!

That is exactly why my wife and I bought the cheepest rings we found and we put them in a box the next day righ after our weeding. We have never ever used them again.
We both hate rings and now with this...

When my brothe was making plans to get married last year I told him that its not a good idea to wear rings at work (he's a carpenter). Surprized him. I tell people that I can't wear rings at work (indurtrial plant) and it surprizes them.
Just seems like common sence (though it obviously isn't), yet you always have a few who'll still do it....and then you peridocially get photos like that.

The Doctor I had growing up just lost his finger because of his weddiing ring. He got it caught when he slipped climbing over a fence.

I don't wear mine at all anymore. I would forget to take it off too many times.
I know guys who keep their wedding rings threaded on a gold necklass that they wear all the time. Seems like a good compromise.

I'm not sure why anyone would even think about climbing with a ring on, it doesn't really make much sense. Maybe the reason I always remember to take it off was because I always taped that finger before climbing due to a tendon problem.
I usually take my ring off and place it somewhere safe every time I climb. I have a necklace that I put it on but my wife has some paranoid fears of my necklace breaking and the being lost so I don't do that very often.

My hubby dosn't climb (yet) but he never wears his ring on his finger. He has it on a short gold chain around his neck. That makes me just happy as pie. I trained as an EMT years ago and got LOT'S of front row instruction when we talked about avulsion injuries - they had something like 15 pictures of ring avulsions in the course. Mmmmm yummy. NOT.
When I'm back in the sport, my ring comes off and stays in my jewelry box. I'll wear it for date night. We know we are married and it dosn't matter to me what anyone else thinks LOL. Though my kids have asked me if I will still be married to daddy if I don't have my ring ;p

Okay, I've only ever had sterling silver chains and a couple very thin gold chains. When climbing I like to use a necklace made from thin cord, which isn't very professional looking when in the office.
I've broken far too many of my chains so I don't want to wear them climbing. Any sugestions on something durable for climbing but still looks approprate for the office?

My hubby wears a very thick serpentine link chain and those seem to last him for ever. The clasp has lasted on his current one for well over a year. The previous chain lasted him about 3 years.
You might go with a slender black leather strip or maybe some thin, translucent filament. Honestly, if it's under your shirt - it shouldn't show too much and plain black cording should be sufficient. But you would want it to be relatively thin :)

Its when I'm wearing a scoop neck shirt that its really a problem.
The leather cord might work. I would get a thick chain, but I don't want something too masculin. I should check out one of those beading stores and see what they have.
Or just keep switching between the silver chain and the cord.

that was pretty much disgusting. i have reduced the chance of that happening by having my wedding band tattooed on. the knot is a carrick bend. i tend to trash or lose rings, so this was the best option.
