My friend and I are thinking about going up to the Adirondacks to rock climb around April 9th and I'm wondering if it's possible then. Is it too cold or wet then? John

I was there yesterday ice climbing. Some routes that I have rock climbed on were dry (until it started raining of course), but even south facing rock will be pretty darn cold. There were still several feet of snow on the flats, so it will be a while for a general warm up.

I've climbed Beer Walls and some of the Washbowl cliffs in April. As mentioned above, you'll want to be in the sun. Running water will be present. Watch out for ice falling from above, though that's not too big a problem at these small cliffs. Pitchoff might be another option.

Hey Guys. Thanks for the input so far. We were actually looking at the Beer Walls and the entire Chapel Pond area. How far is the Pitchoff Cliff from there? John

John Chapel pond is a no no, north facing. We climb washbowl in april and we watch 1000 pound chunks of ice roll down it when it warms up. Pitchoff is several miles west on 73 from chapel pond area. Good luck.
