First off...what a great idea for a forum! I came back from an extended trip (business for my husband, and vacation for me)and found this on my return... it's been great reading while I veg on my first full day at home. I look forward to keeping tract of the posts here.
I came a cross a publishing comapany (Seal Press) that works specifically with women authors and women's topics. They have many books published under their Adventura series. This is devoted to women and the outdoors. I have read many of these titles and have found them wonderful and inspiring. There are books of collected stories such as Solo: On Her Own Adventure. There are also books specific to certain topics from flu fishing to rockclimbing and everything in between. I would highly recomend taking a look at the SealPress website. You can get a list of the books they have published under the adventura series. The writers have been boldly candid and honest...painfully so in some cases. This appeals to me, since I find those qualities rare in my everyday meeting of women in general.
Anyway, I hope some of you will find inspiration or just a good book among the titles.

Thanks for the suggestions, Otter. One book I'd like to recommend is Lynn Hill's autobiography, Climbing Free. What an inspiring read!

Has anyone here read "Annapurna"?
I've heard it is fabulous and haven't seemed to find the time to pick it up yet.

I have a great suggestion. Great female author.
"Disappearance: A Map"
by Sheila Nickerson
Great book. Great read.

Hi Erica,
Its about a woman (the author, its non-fiction) that lives in Juneau, Alaska.
Its about the strange disappearances that happen in Alaska. Planes going down, boats sinking, some history, and some native information on the people of the area.
Not really a climbing book, but a very interesting read on the outdoors and deaths and disappearances.
Its subtitled: "A Meditation on Death & Loss in the High Latitudes". Also, on the cover is a quote by Kirkus Reviews; "For those who are fascinated by disappearances--unexplained, unexplainable--forget the Bermuda Triangle. Try Alaska, and let Nickerson be your guide."
Its a very interesting book and a pretty good read.
