cort mcelroy cort@climbitanyway.com he is good ... i think hes about 250 for a whole day private. depends on what you mean by outdoor?? most climbing goes on out of doors. or you can go to the rock oasis and take a lesson. or buy a book. like freedom of the hills.

I have climbed indoor, and have read several books. I would like some formal training to start off. I guess a good place to start off is a top rope anchor course.

What you want is a "coming out of the gym" course, and schools such as Equinox, Vector, etc. provide a 2 day top rope course that includes how to build anchors and how to not kill yourself unintentionally.

Last I heard Jamie and Vector on Rope went by by about 1 1/2 years ago.
