This post has a two fold purpose: 1. I got into Virginia Tech, and will most likely attend their engineering school. 2. I am curious if anyone here goes, has gone, or lives in the general area of VT. If so, i would really appreciate it if you could answer a couple of questions. Where do you climb? How far from the school is it? What type of climbing? how large is the climbing community? Thanks

Your in luck VA Tech has a pretty decent climibing coummunity. I did not go there but have friends who did and they have talked about various local areas. One is McCaffes Knob a bouldering area high up on a ridgeline. Your are also approx. only 2 hrs from the NRG and about 3 hrs from Boone. Good luck in college and make sure you study more than just rock climbing.

Congratulations on getting in. I'll be graduating from VT this spring. For local climbing you've got: -McCoy: Mostly top roping (some trad if you explore) right by the river, a fun and often overlooked place to climb, 15 min drive -Bozoo: small but awesome crag, mostly trad, some sport and bouldering, 1 hr drive -Macafee Knob: Great bouldering on the AT, a little bit of a hike to reach the top, 30 min drive -NRG: No explanation needed, spend as much time there as you can, 2 hr drive Also there is an indoor bouldering gym called The Rock that is decent, plus you can always climb on the buildings on campus. There are always obscure places to discover as well, get out and explore if you get the chance. Good luck -Andy
