I'd like to bring this back since the old one got canned.

from Boldering.com (posted days before here)

He will likely post more details when he can but from what I gather, this is what happened...

Some mistake involving a rapelling method he was told to do, but unfamiliar with.

Fell about 60 feet, route turned to slab, shattered both ankles, curled into ball and rolled 50 feet further down slab. Hit ledge while tumbling to break back likely, then continued through shrubbery to finally hit the ground. Somewhere in there also shattering his arm.

Only external injury was a deep laceration in the leg, resulting in a few staples, and a bunch of stiches in the arm. Otherwise, bruised to shit. Much of the damage was bone breakage internally.

It was the fact that the route slabbed out at the base that kept him from completely freefalling, pancaking and dying.

Unrooted could you elaborate on this? Do you know how ike was rapping that caused this? Also why he was using a different method for this route..

from the b.com thread Ike says he's moved to a rehab hospital and seems to be in good spirits.. so that's good to hear.

that's also inaccurate. here's the true tally:
left calcaneus (heel bone): shattered or "cornflaked", reconstructive surgery
left olecranon (elbow): shattered, reconstructive surgery
right calcaneus: fractured but stable, no surgery needed
Lumbar 1, 2, and 4 (lower vertebrae): one fracture each in the transverse processes on the right side,
L3: same fracture in the transverse process, also sustained a compression fracture in the right facet joint, miraculously without loss of height
Rib #8 (right side): fractured and severely bruised the right lung

a close look at the fall i took and the injuries i sustained makes it quite apparent that i am one lucky motherfucker. thanks everyone for the support.

Day-yum, Ike.

I'm glad you're "OK" ("OK", of course, being relative.... that is, I'm glad you ain't dead or in a coma,) and wish you a speedy recovery.

Ike, you must be one strong motherfucker. Best wishes for a full recovery. I'm sure it won't be quick, but hopefully it will be consistent for you.

the name of the route was "soul train," a 12a at the Soul Asylum.
