Whenever your not wearing your climbing shoes, try sticking an unused dryer sheet in each one of them. This is especially usefull when you have them in say your pack, as it keeps everything else in your pack from smelling.

Cedar chips! The best! This might be a little off the beaten path for some of you guys, but those huge kitchen stores like Bed and Bath and Linens N Things now have these bags of cedar chips. It's cedar chips in a little cloth bag and they are a perfect fit inside climbing shoes. They work like a charm -- very highly recommended.

I took two knee-hi and filled them with foot powder, They not only reduce the smell, but I also use them to apply the powder on my sweaty feet afterwards. Thanks to my ex-partner Tim for showing me this trick.

Maybe trad and sport climbers don't want stinky shoes but among boulders it is a badge of honor. Paraphrased from New England Bouldering: The cabinet I keep my climbing shoes in smells like a skunk crawled in there and died sometime in the 18th century after eating an anchovy sandwich.

Does anyone know how I can shrink my shoes? I'd like them to feel a tad tighter.

heat...keep them in the trunk of the car all day in the sun or some similarly warm place. This is only a temporary solution.

The shoe disinfectant spray they have at bowling alleys works very well. It kills the fungus that causes the stench, so in addition to fighting odors, it will also help your shoes to last longer. It reality, though, fresh air and sunshine will work very well. Clip them to the outside of your pack when you hike out at the end of the day, and they should be ok. Don't leave your shoes in the hot car. Heat will cause the glue to loosen, and your soles will start to de-laminate.

My shoes are totally Funktified. Not only do they reek like 10 day old dookie, the leather on the uppers is even getting stiff. i attribute this from having been soaked in sweat so many times, then dried up. The salt in sweat doesnt help the situ. Have any of U tried washing your shoes in the clothes washer. What soap did u use and how did u dry them.

I've tried putting unused dryer sheets in each of my shoes. It just ends up smelling like shoe funk and dryer sheets!

Get the shoes wet then when they are not soaking wet, but still wet put them on and let them dry to your feet, this should help with the stretch from wear.

I heard somewhere that if you put your shoes in the freezer it helps with the smell. Not sure how well it really works but my freezer sure stinks!

Stink, Stank and Stunk, I love that smell of my sweet shoe funk. It's a MUST HAVE, if you are a true dirt bag climber that is committed to the core of the sport. [ This Message was edited by: michaelmay513 on 2002-10-14 08:43 ]
