I am going to the valley this summer and I have seen some threads on flying with haul bags, however I don't know how difficult it will be. If anyone out there has any beta it would be greatly appreciated.

Last time I flew with haul bags there was no problem at all. I set them up as if I was going to be hauling them (take off straps) and tied the top haul straps in a knot. I did keep my harness with my carry-on just incase things did not show up, we could still do a bit of climbing. No problems though. I almost forgot.... look for the bags in the oversized area. Took me a while to figure that one out :)

Like alpineh said and also check the size limitations of the airline. I just flew with my last week and It was 50 lbs and a certain amt of inches total size. make sure you have tape handy to compact the top of the bag down. They will charge you the extra 40 dollars for the size restriction even if its air thats taking up that space in the top. See you there this summer. Zak

I don't know about international business...but I flew out to Vegas in route to Zion last fall with two haul bags and everything went great. As stated above, take all the strappydoos off and consider taking a basic rack carry-on, in case your wall bags go missing. I also tried to rig the tops of the bags so that the inspectors could figure out how to get into them if needbe. Zipties and toy carabiners worked great for this. And pay attention to the 50lb limit per bag, or you will have to pay.

I have flown return from canada to australia 5 times with my haul bag with no problems. only limitation was the weight for the airline. had to keep it under 45 lbs, or pay extra. the small airlines in australia wont even take it if it is over 55lbs. its tuff enough that the throwers cant hurt it, and sticks out in any airport.
