I'll be there! If for nothing else, just to heckle. I couldn't climb a ladder these days unless there was a donut at the top to entice me. Not sure if I'll be with or without the wife and rope gun (6 y/o step daughter), but I'll definitely have the two mutts of mayhem.

And stogies. Plenty of stogies. I may, in fact, fire up my own batch of chili.

I propose the "First Annual Chili Survivor: Arizona" cookoff.

Ed, Alex, and myself (and anyone else that wants in) all make a batch of chili. The tasters sample each, then select their favorite and cast ballots.

Then we get two T-Shirts made up that say "My chili sucks; I am not worthy" and the losers get to climb in them the next day, while the winner is showered with praise, fanned with palm fronds by hot climbing chicks, and fed grapes while "Hail to the Chef" is piped through the stereo.

Someone ought to stop off at Costco and get a 24-pack of toilet paper. Some ice cream, too.

So if someone were to fly into Phoenix would it be possible to hitch a ride to Flagstaff and get a ride to the Airport on Sunday?

Love, me and Arex would cart you all over if nobody else from Phx could. It's also possible that you can hook up with J and Anna, depending on what route they take.

And Reno, I LOVE your idea. Do you have a design worked up? If not, I'm on it, and I'll be skittering over to cafepress.com ASAP.

No design, but I do have a name for my entry:

"Reno's Rectum Ripping Chili: So hot, you'll think your rectum got ripped open."

Hillary:

Go to the Forest service office, see about getting a permit to cut wood in the forest. I'll bring a bow saw and an axe, and we'll have a fun time cutting some aspens for the camp fire.

To the organizer(s)

I am going to be leaving next friday (4/20) for my little excursion, and will have VERY limited access to computers. I would say the week before, I have a 70/30 chance of not seeing a computer, so I am not sure how I will get in touch with anyone to meet up with you guys. If you can provide as much detail as possible (I realize it is mad early for details) before the 20th I'd appreciate it. I know I will have access to a comp until the 24th, but after that its up in the air.

Thanks,
Mike D

Mike D/Bizarro:

Check your PMs. I'm sending you my phone number, and directions to the camping area.

When you get closer, if you're anywhere near PHX, call me. We'll meet for a bite and a beer, and I'll give you a map, etc.

OK, gang. Here's the scoop on the camping area. Those who joined Climbsomething, Camhead, Epic_ed, and myself last August will remember the place. For the rest, here are the directions:

Get thee to the Flagstaff area. Take I-17 towards Phoenix, and exit Highway 89 (IIRC, the exit is #337.) Turn west, then south onto 89.

About 10 miles down, you'll see an AZ DOT yard on the left (east) side. Past that is a road, FR 237. PAST THAT, you'll see a gate on the left side with a faint dirt road beyond. The gate, last I knew, had a hubcap hanging on one post (Hills, can you swing down thataway and see if the hubcap is still there?) If you get to the Oak Creek Overlook, you went too far. Turn around, go back north, and catch your first right in this case.

Open gate, through gate, close gate. (<- Bonus points if you catch the movie reference.)

Once through, stay to the left every chance you get. You CAN do this with low clearance 2WD (I did it in a Dodge Intrepid) but a high clearance would be easier. Look for the cars.

I think this link will work to bring up a Google Map placemark. You may have to zoom out a bit to get a good overview.

Should be OK.... as I mention, the dirt road is kinda rough, and you might have to pick your way through the worst of the ruts, but I think you could do it.

I know the date and place (I had locked my keys in the rental car at the Overlook when I tried to check the area out a couple of months ago). I'm just not sure If I can swing the tickets and the time away for that weekend. I live in the Seattle area and will be moving to Phoenix this fall and I'm just itching to get on the rock down there. I'll keep an eye on this thread and give ya'll a more definite response when the date draws nearer. will mostlikely have my own ride and be travelling in a group of 2-4.

I'm planning on driving out there from socal. I don't have class on fridays so I'll be able to stay the full time. Might come with a couple friends, or maybe just by myself. Sorry I don't know any of you guys but I'm looking forward to meeting everyone. Always wanted to go climbing in AZ.

You are correct, sir!!! You've won a half-acre of beach front property right here in downtown Phoenix. To claim your prize, simply send me a money order for $500 to cover licensing fees, title transfers, and assorted legal paperwork things.
