Hello friends!
I can't believe climbkentucky got shut down because of those vulgar posts. hopefully, here we won't be bothered by those guys/girls.
I'm new to climbing so i'm just looking to learn some basics and hopefully meet some new friends! thanks rockclimbing.com!

That sucks... 'jaybee' was a friend of mine, and he even scored the campsite for us at the First (Unofficial) RC.com Event at J-Tree last year.
Hopefully he will come here and post what happened.

why not just control your message board and delete posts that are offensive or ban ip's/users ???
a few assholes seems like a stupid reason to shut down/remove a web site.

I did what I wanted to do... I got out of the website administration busniness. I don't have the time, energy, or programming knowledge to moderate and prevent hacking.
I wanted the board to be moderated, and couldn't do it myself, so I closed it down... not so much for the crassness of a few idiots, but the blatant disregard for the few rules I gave.
Now, I have a flood of people saying they'll moderate and delete every single post that violates the user agreement (rat-boy and horatio, that would be about 95% of what you wrote).
That said, I have little doubt that climbkentucky.com or some new version there-of will rise again. Will I be the administrator? Hell no. I would rather spend my time climbing than deleting post after post of vulgar, off-topic, and pathetically written prose.
I loved it while I did it and think it was a great thing, but a perfect example of a few bad apples spoiling the bunch.
Rat-baby. I have never had any beef with you in person, and in fact, have enjoyed all our meetings. Why bash me, or at least why pretend we're buds when we meet at the crag if you think i'm a baby? That's not cool dude. why get so upset about a climbing bbs?
What a waste. It makes me sad.
I dig rock climbing.
rrradam, old pal, you gonna put me up when I come out this winter? when you coming to the red? I'll kick your ass at bop-it extreme.

hopefully it ll come back. becauase it did help me to find a climbing partner before i came up to RRG on labr weekend which i did meet a cool guy with green hair.

I am sad to see it go, I loved looking through the post and seeing what type of info I could find. I understand why you closed it though after a short while I quit posting their because of the a-holes posting dumb crap after I ask a question. Most of the people were cool but if was just the main 4, the 4 im talking about being rat-baby- scin- hf- and sometimes wes.

yo, before i took a trip to the red last year i scored some great beta from that site. it is a shame that is is down. it is a worse shame that people don't seem to have any remorse for or understanding of what they did to contribute to jb's frustration.

i agreed that some got our of hand on the board. it happened that our board was more of an outlet for a community of climbers rather than a board for just information. most of us are good friends in "real life" and have a sense of humor that is sometimes a bit over the top, ok a lot over the top. but that was the way the board was. anyway jb had already decided to hand the board over to someone else and i'm not really sure why he didn't just do that rather then delete everything. there was a lot of good information still on that board and a lot of good memories and it will be missed.

Read his post. It's pretty clear why he did it and I don't blame him a bit. He gave a few rules and people took advantage of him. I can appreciate a lot of the weird posts and humor, but people flat out went too far. I don't hold it against those guys specifically, and I do wish the moderators, moderated more than they did. However, hacking into his site repeatedly, using other people's names and not telling anybody they are just kidding around was apparently too much for him. I wish it would come back, but, people didn't respect his wishes or show good taste, so now we are all scr****.

Like Miarock stated, a large number of contributers are friends outside of the board. Unfortunately our sick sense of humor took over and became such an irritant to the rest. I can appreciate JB's frustration BUT a board will go on.

If climbkentucky does comes back or there is a new board created I hope that everyone has learned a lesson from all of this. Joking around with your friends and stuff is fun, but if you aren't in on the joke it gets old very quickly.

This sucks...
I loved that site. It helped me locate the FA to many climbs at Dawson Springs (Jim Thurmond) who I was having trouble to find. He saw the post on ck.com and contacted me. He came out and climbed with us and gave the guidebook authors all the info they needed. Sad to see it go.
