Is it happening this year?

If so, I assume May 4th - 6th are the dates?

I've been coming out a lot this Spring and if it's happening, I'd like to come out and meet the real locals and give you all a cold one in thanks for developing this great crag.

For those that haven't yet been - it's a wonderful crag, with great climbing and potential for a few hundred more routes. If you're into tufa climbing, the whole Finland section is not to be missed.

That is really funny socal...I was on here this morning to write a post about it but got distracted looking at perdy pictures of hard women.

Yes indeed, Cinco de Homestead is on. It is the weekend of the 5th. I will bring the geni and blender again so we can have margaritas. Bring your sombrero's and moustaches.

We are headed out there tonight to enjoy the semi-mild weather this weekend. I've heard rumors of new routes on the Mouse Wall as well...pretty excited about that.

No racey flyer this year, but it is a go.

-r Cool

It is so tempting...It's only a 26 hour drive I could also get another hike in out to the Coliseum WinkWink

With a 1/3 of a mile long Wall of moderates how could I go wrong?

No I Thank You...and the smile is even huger here!!

Anyone else?

Let's make this a proper gathering and get a few more commitments.

If you haven't been yet, this is your chance to get a tour and to experience what will likely be the future of Arizona sport climbing in this region.

I don't know how I missed his last post, but if I can drive 8 hours and roadstead can drive 26 hours to be there, then all of you Arizonians have no excuse not to join us.

Guilt tripper Laugh

I'll see what I can do.

If it's not blazing hot maybe some of you strapping lads can do some chain gang labor and smooth out the cruxy part of the road? Tone it down a little so that high-clearance 2WD trucks can get there? We have a burly enough Blazer now but I think smoothing out the road will really help up visibility of this sweet crag.

OK, you fall for my guilt trip and show up with a friend or two and I'll put some work into the road.

Hmm. My man friend is strapping, and he's been threatening to fix that road for years.

I'll set up shop in the shade with the cooler of frosty bevvies and bumpin' tunes, and take documentary photos and video Sly

We have a deal.

Twist some arms and drag a few truck loads more out to climb. There must be some Homestead virgins in your area.

I've got a few from SoCal talked into coming out.

Speaking of which, what's Jay up to? I haven't seen him in a while and he's probably about due for an Arizona trip. Time for you to put your powers of persuasion to work.

Kidnapping is a Federal offense. As to Cinco de Homestead, I won't be able to make it. Anna is throwing a birthday bash at New Jack that weekend.

I'll look for a pick and shovel for the road, I have got to see the newest stuff out there. This place would be greatly improved if the road didn't suck for such a short section. Sounds like a lot of work has been going on the walls. Se yall then.

WoW! Looks like we are going to have some action...and maybe even road work... About the road..it's pretty solid rock at the crux so I'd recommend a jackhammer at the least! Laugh

It would be nice to have people around out there. I think in all the years out there I've maybe seen 30 different people.

So, half the crew is in Joes right now and will end their road-trip at Cinco. I am heading home from Flag after a couple days getting worked at the Forks...I vote roadstead for EL Jefe' this year.

I looked at the road last time I was out and the trouble spots are mainly rock-based with a coating of dirt and cobbles on top. Digging it more level isn't really an option.

The two main trouble spots are the initial right turn and then the quick left right after it. Between the two turns is a depression caused by seasonal water runoff. Maybe we could just fill this depression with larger cobbles and then coat the whole depression with smaller rocks (basically large diameter gravel)? All of the materials we would need to do this are right there already.

I think the area just before and just after the turns are both manageable with a high-clearance 2WD vehicle as long as the driver is competent and motivated to make it through this section of road. If we can make the section at and between the turns a little easier to manage and improve the cross slope in the same sections, that might be the best we could hope to accomplish.

I'll bring a pick-axe or two and a shovel and make an attempt at this on my drive in. Depending on how that goes, maybe we can make a group effort after that.

So, only a few more days until the event.

Just checked the weather and it looks like it's going to be cooler than I originally thought. Forecast says low-mid 80's. Considering that you can either stay in the sun or shade for most of the day, it should be quite pleasant.

Hope to see many new faces there.
