I'm new to the forums and sorry if im posting to many topics hehe just trying to get my thoughts out there. I have always wanted to be a great climber and try to be the best but alot of people always tell me im crazy and how could you ever want to climb mountains and risk your life. But its always been something i have wanted to do but is it to big of a dream to think of myself becoming a good climber?

It is definitely not, you can do it it you want it bad enough. You do have to be dedicated if you want to be really good though. After a few times on the rock though, the dedication normally takes care of itself.

There is never anything wrong with having a dream. Do not let other peoples fear stop you. Learn about the ricks and make the decision yourself. 10th grade??? Age certainly won't hold you back. And from your posts, I'd say that enthusiasm is there. Go for it. Dave

"The best climber in the world is the one who has the most fun" -Alex Lowe You dont have to climb 5.14 or Everest to be a great climber. Your newer to the sport so i'm gonna assume you dont know who Katie Brown is. She was a great climber, and won comps all over at the age of 18! Now she is unheard of, I heard she quit climbing, not sure tho. Now look at lots of people on this site, lots have been climbing, and enoying climbing for 20 years+ and have never, and will never climb over 5.12

As an avid climber I have one thing to say: Sometimes the greater challenges don't take place on rock. Climb on Do your best And from what the pros say: surviving on only ramen noodles for two weeks to buy new gear or a road trip is well worth it. Do it for yourself, and only yourself.

Not only is it ok to dream, but I consider it required Educate yourself, buy gear... fondle your gear when you aren't climbing ... and get out and go up. A lot

I think I know how you feel. I have rarely had anybody encourage me to get into rock climbing. I have drug my family, friends and anyone else I could into the sport. None of them really understand why I love it so much. They seem to have other priorites like school and sleep. I don't know. I wish I could climb every day, but I have a hard time getting out once a week. I guess that's life. I can't understand why my brother likes surfing so much. I can't understand a lot of people's passions. Maybe I need to learn to do some soloing. At least top rope. That way I could climb every day!

HEY COOL! Sophomores rule! hehe, great time to be a climber, its great to impress ppl at parties to be able to climb on weird stuff and jump into the pool while no one else can! Well, maybe some ppl but you know... you did it first cause you were prolly more interested in climbing it than jumping off

So wait, they do exist then? Man, had I but known! I'm being the clich male here so I aplogize, but if I'd know there were girls at the same age into climbing when I was 16/17, I would've worked a lot harder at getting good at it! Only now that I'm in college am I making that discovery. Now you'll pardon me, I need to get some rest, maybe the #11 hex will help.

It's all about the rock and you. Just the rock and you. Don't let anyone tell you different. Don't let anyone else butt in and tell you its crazy. They don't understand. Most important be safe and have fun.

Great ambition(s)!!! I also have the same desire, to do something at my best ability. My family and friends consider this too dangerous of an activity for me too. However, they also realize that I am one to chase my dreams. Dreams are what keep us going -- every day. When you stop dreaming, hoping, striving, that is the day you stop living. Don't worry -- do what you want. Have fun and CLIMB ON!!! JULES
