Castle Rock State Park (see Drtopo for information) has the best bouldering I have ever done. The few routes that are there are really not worth doing. It is maybe 2 hours from the heart of San Fran, on the way to Santa Cruz.

2 hours? Not much. There's some stuff up in Marin County (Split Rock, Mickey's Beach), Berkeley (Cragmont and Indian Rock) and Mt. Diablo. Change your timeframe to 3-4 hours and a lot more opens up.

Aw, c'mon, there are some good routes. Just a lot more bouldering. The Bay Area has variety, but not a whole lot of overrall quality. Mickey's Beach, Mt. Tam, Indian Rock, Beaver Street Wall (in S.F.), Glen Canyon (in S.F.), Turtle Rock, Split Rock, Mt. St. Helena, Mt. Diablo, Castle Rock, etc. Search these in the RDB and you'll have a start. Falcon Press puts out a guide to climbing the SF Bay Area by Tresa Black I believe. Now, what you actually want to do is go to the Sierras and climb world class granite .
