I will be in Silaom Springs for a week or two next month and was wondering if someone could tell me what the best crags in Arkansas are. I was also wondering if there is anything within the vacinity of Silaom Springs, that would be good for an afternoon of climbing; 30 minute drive or less? I am coming from San Diego and enjoy all forms of climbing: trad, sport, TR's and Bouldering. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I've heard North Buffalo State Park (or something of that nature) is pretty good. No bolts but easy top rope anchor access.
I'm from Memphis and if you ever want to meet up and do some climbing just call me

No i've never been to HCR, but from the photos it looks great. Its definately on my list of crags while i'm in AR. Hows the trad there? Have you ever climbed at Sams Throne? The guide book is out of print and it cost a fortune to buy it now. How are the mosquitos this time of year? Thanks for your reply.

I have never climbed at sams throne but it is on my list. I have not noticed any "bug" problems at HCR. The trad is great. the sport is all you can do in a weekend. Good luck

Take 412 East to 21 South to 43 North to 74 East to HCR. Give me a shout and let me know a weekend you would be free. My partner and I love to head up there. Great sport routes and we haven't done any trad up there yet, but will next time we go. eccqcboy@yahoo.com

cinderlick5205, there is a lot of good climbing not too far from Silom Springs. be sure to check out crags like shepard springs, lincoln lake, and the bouldering area near lake weddington. area 74 has premire bouldering east of Fayetteville on Hwy 74, and of course HCR is fantastic

have fun and welcome to AR

Bugs in Arkansas; ticks and red bugs. The ticks fall from the tree tops using some infra-red device seeking warm bodies. Well the red bugs sit in the brushes waiting for a host to arrive. Both see me coming and I am usually covered with both anytime I'm out enjoying what Arkansas has to offer.

Solution; products with deet and citranella before going out and showers with tick and flea shampoo after.

It seems that the red bugs prefer females while the ticks are indiscriminate.

but still have fun . . .

I'll be in Arkansas in two or so weeks; if you (or for that matter any of you folks!) are interested in partnering up, I'd love to have someone to climb with! I'm up for trad sport, tr, whatever you want!
