Well, I was over in Zion last week and noticed something new on Touchstone. It seems someone put up bolts up the original start (off to the left of the standard bolt ladder) and bypassing the roof on the second pitch, following "climbable" features. Some fellow climbers at the visitor center told me that Chris Sharma installed the bolts, so the route could go free at some ungodly grade (like 5.13d?). Just wondering if this is the case?

if u cant climb it.....bolt the hell out of it so you can? ummmm...i'm going to have to stand strong on other ethics here... despite the specifics of the case (be it to free climb or whatnot).

well, the original start is to the right of the bolt ladder, not the left. there's some features over there, and it looked like there were some stuck ropes off left of the bolt ladder earlier this spring.... i'll be interested to hear what comes of this. sharma sounds like an unlikely candidate, though- he's not a crack climber, or a wall climber (not that he cant, of course, but more in the sense that its not his boat)....seems like an odd project for him.

yep, the original start is over to the right, sorry. I would like to know the story on those ropes too? Mystifying... I thought it seemed odd for Sharma too, that's why I was asking on the post. It will be interesting to learn who did it. I am almost surprised I haven't heard anything outside this forum, maybe i need to look harder...

I was out climbing it last year when it went free from bottom to top using the alternate start to the route. Never saw any bolting then. Also, didn't see Sharma there doing this.

Well summer is almost over and still no answer! No angry mob armed with cats paws have stormed the rout it seems. I'll never trust another dirtbagging east coast climbing couple for beta again. Hummm, I should have taken pictures.
