Hey, we're doing a family road trip this coming september. going to disneyland, followed by 3 days in yosemite. we would like to do some climbing while were there. heres the thing. my wife and 4 kids are not big climbers! is there anywhere in the park we could go do some short (40ft or lower) top rope climbs? any other suggestions of family friendly hiking/rockclimbing options in the park? Thank you dave

Hike up to Nevada Falls on the Mists Trail, a genuine family adventure. It'll be an all day deal. Take a camera but take a plastic bag along to keep it dry for one misty part of the trail. Not a lot of the climbing you seek, perhaps something on Swan Slab across from Yosemite Lodge would work. I see lots of top roping on that thing. DMT

Tenaya lake beach works great for us. -you can walk across the road to Stately Pleasure dome and climb South Crack 5.7 and see the kids on the beach the whole time. ( they can see you too, binoculars help) The big trees at the Mariposa grove are pretty darn impressive no matter what age you are, - worth a stroll through. El Cap Meadow bridge is fun for hanging and watching climbers way up on the Captain while you and kids are frollicking in the river or meadow. - You also can chat with people gearing up for wall climbing. www.hansbasecamp.com - has a tree fort in the back! Pat and Jacks pinnacle area is a short walk from parking and has various grade routes.
