I went to Tatoo this past weekend and after looking at the guide book, I saw that there is another parking area at the 2nd pull-off. You need to drive down a 4wd trail. From that parking area, the hike down is just as steep, but it is much closer from where you can leave your vehicle. You pretty much cut off all the walking before you get to the steep section. Does anyone ever use that parking lot?

On a side note, there was a gas leak from one of the pipes. You could hear and smell natural gas just shooting out of the broken pipe.

I use the second parking lot all the time. If you don't have 4WD (or AWD) you stand a good chance of getting stuck in one of those muddy holes. I've seen it happen several times.

Gas Leak? Dude, that's serious! Did you report it?

Yes, I called the emergency number that was printed on the sign. Actually, my girlfriend did. Anyway, they wanted to know which county we were in. I didn't know that, so I just told them it was off of Ames Ht. Road. The woman said she would find out which county and send someone out to check. Apparently she didn't seem that concerned.

Let's all learn from up_for_a_good_time's experience and not try to drive down any further:

I think of that picture every time I pass those puddles Laugh

haha, very nice. I've been in a few sticky situations like that before. I've learned my lesson to never assume it's only a few inches deep.
How did you get out? Most of the mud was all dried up which made the trail move navigable.

Good thing there wasn't a Natural Gas leak the day he was driving through the pipeline road. <up_for_a_good_time>'s running vehicle may have been an unintended ignition source! ShockedShockedShocked

Well, my Jeep didn't ignite it. When I got down there, I thought I had punctured a tire because of the loud hissing. After I parked and saw where the leak was coming from, I thought it was just air. Then, the odor came and you could really smell it.

If anyone heads down there, post back as to whether it's fixed or not.

All of the parking in this thread is now off limits as of August 2007. Check here for info on new parking and approaches for Bubba City, including Sandstonia.
