Will be in the area from Vermont and would like to climb the classic East Face route. Anybody else available on those days?

I may be up for it. I don't want to do it in a day though. PM me if you're interested. -mark

A permit is required to camp at iceberg lake and they only give out 4 per night- overnight is possible but not guaranteed. Do you live in the area?

Howdy Samnelson, Sounds nice. I prefer to do the route in a long day. Ice berg permits are easier to get at the Lone Pine Forest Service Ranger Station though. If you follow standard permit beta, options are often limited. The ice berg bevy is high and cold. The extra time spent at altitude is often more of a deficit than the gained approach time. Drop on by either way. Tim

I don't rock climb a lot, but have done lots of Alpine stuff (climbed Denali, Rainier, first ascents in Alaska etc). I have never done any rock climbing in the Sierra and understand that the route up Whitney is a bit challenging from a route finding standpoint. It is a total of 12 pitches- not too many hard ones, but it is a long day nonetheless- what is your direct email?
