Has anyone tried to make a 8'x8' ~ 40 degree with 2x4's instead of 2x6's?

Have and did check out my profile pics for shots of my wall. All the basic framing was done with 2x4's

For something only 8' tall 2x4's should be fine.

i'm working on a wall right now that uses only 2X4s for framing. It depends on the spacing between the studs.

personally I've been quite unhappy with the flex of 2x4 so i've put in bracing behind alot of mine.

N_Oo_B,
before the bracing, how far apart were the 2X4s, and which way were they (which side was touching the wood) ?

Mine are on 2 foot centers and still solid. but this could easily put to 16'' centers.

2x4 will be fine for this 16" oc would be ideal to eliminate the flex, also you will get better results if you have a panel with vertical studs at 16" and the brace your overhang from this panel to the ceiling joists in your house.

Well... I have 16 OC, 12 foot high with the structural axis the obvious best way. Short spans of only 3-4 feet I felt it was fine with just a single brace in the middle, but with longer spans of 5-10 feet wide I felt the need to brace it more than just at the 6 foot interval.

My personal preference and I haven't actually got any plywood on the 2x4 walls I have like this....So I'm just drawing my conclusion from what I feel is "good".

I've been a new home-construction framer for just over 7 years. To me it was just about what "felt good enough". So do what you like, I doubt you'll be unhappy whatever you decide to do.

I know I'm going overkill.
