Hey guys, I've been researching rock climbing photographers for a marketing paper and pretty much just finding amazing photos and then hoping that the photographer has a website. So here are the photographers that I've been trying to find: Evrard Wendenbaum(recently had some stuff in Alpinist maybe 2 magazines ago) Ana Piunova(sp?)-think I saw some stuff of Kalymos, not sure Keith Ladzinski-a name from my notes, found a website, but the site was not functioning. I am suppose to research the marketing aspect of climbing photography for my final paper in marketing. The reason for this is because I go to a photography school and they try and keep our Gen Ed's photo related. If anyone has heard of those names or knows of any other websites, or has a favorite photographer lets hear it.

Two Canadians for the mix: Rich Wheater Mike Landkroon Honestly, it's easy to love climbing photography as a climber (well, I've never loved it personally, but it's alright I guess), but it's maybe not the best choice for a marketing project... so make sure you take the extra effort to really dig into the realities of it. It's not an impossible career path by any means, but I think you definitely need a fair bit of drive. A few things to notice: Many climbing photographers do not do exclusively climbing photography as it's not the most lucrative endeavor (for most) nor is it the most consistent or steady source of work. Most that I know either have another job as their main source of income, or they shoot many other activities to earn their keep. It's not always about having the best image or the most aesthetic/ artistic. It's often comes down to meeting customer needs, which could mean fitting a layout, showing the right demographic, capturing a n important/ relevant and significant moment... just meeting generaly client needs. Consistency, accuracy and confidence go a long way. Connections and general networking skills are more important than pretty much everything else... even photographic skill. Granted, if you have no skills as a photographer, aren't personable and aren't professional you likely won't have any connections either, but it's still the connections that get you the most solid work, and eventually reputation as well (which I would say falls under networking).

You mentioed some good points here. Also, needs to keep in mind, that full time photogrpaher who sell climbing images make better income selling outside of the climbing world. Climbing images sold to other industry make much more money then the same image sold to the climbing industry. Some major shift are currently happening in the photography bussiness. I would love to read your paper when it is complete. Would you consider emailing it to me?
