Hi DC! I too am an Aussie, climbing at 23/24. I am going to follow the same plan, and see how I go. Where are you from? I'm from Adelaide, maybe we can catch up at Araps late summer. Thanks for asking the question, it was a ripper!

Don't be so hard on yourself, Jetlace, Hans Florine had the same idea on his first 5.12 experience and now he's the fastest climber in the world! (Nose, 2:48:55!) Check out "The Principle of Applying Speed on Short Routes" on page 86 and 87 of his new book, "Climb On! Skills for More Efficient Climbing"
The rest of the book is fantastic, so don't stop there!

I'm glad people are talking in the ausie/sa grades... finaly language I understand

In that book that was mentioned Climbing 5.12 it says, train for max strenght not endurance, training for max stranght builds endurance, but training for endurance does not build max strenght.

And my favourtie quote: If you can't pull a hard move on a route, you have nothing to endure.

Makes kinda sence i think

I agree that training endurance does little if anything to improve your maximum strength. I find that increasing maximum strength doesn't build endurance either. What it does do, though, is allows you to endure on harder routes.
