Try Rock Climbing Anchors: A Comprehensive Guide by Craig Luebben. This is an excellent book, with many illustrations and examples of building anchors and gear placements. This book and a good mentor was how I learned to place gear. >Cam

Once you get the book and read just go to the local cliffs and start doing it on the ground. Then start off leading easy. You'll be fine. Don't forget to through in a few pieces of mental pro.

Most stuff about placing gear isn't covered in an article - not to say that it isn't possible, but I haven't seen anything that covers all you need to know about ever type of pro in one article, to say nothing of rigging techniques. Pick up John Long's Climbing Anchors 2nd Ed. Pretty much the anchoring bible. I'm sure CL's book is great, too, but I haven't read it. If you are far from a bookstore, you can get it from Amazon no problem. http://www.amazon.com/...187809648&sr=8-1

omalavet wrote: im a law student.... i have to read like 150 cases a week....i dont have time to be reading a rock climbing book.... the time that i have i go climbing not reading again I'm utterly confused by this statement. So, you have time to read online forums, post on online forums, search the internet for articles, and read online articles yet you have no time to read a book on the very subject you're interested in? How does that work? Nobody said you need to read the book cover-to-cover in one sitting. This excuse is dangerous. And where is there a law school 2 hours away from a book store? Just curious...

This is really a book. Articles are 2000 words tops. Just buy a book man, it's better in the long run. LostinMaine's comment above is right.

A climbing lawer eh? Does that mean you'll thake the guy who wrote the military e-manual to court b/c he didn't write it in a comprehensive manner and you didn't learn it right, resulting in a massive ground fall of a meatbomb b/c you placed gear poorly? Get the book, it'll take less time to read than sifting though all that BS to find what is right and what is not. And you'll have something to take with you to the crag for your own evaluation of your gear placements.

So you're hoping to get your hands on the "executive brief" on gear plugging and that's going to somehow get you up to speed. Dude, do yourself a favor and MAKE time. I think it was Dingus that posted up about multitasking in the john to generate reading time. Executive brief: you're sitting there anyway, read something.

if everyone is so indifferent about people's lives, why do you spend the time posting up to insult people, or threaten them with death??? sad to see it is usually the same people doing this... "oh you don't like my advice??? well fuck you you stupid T3 i hope you hang yourself from your nuts and have to wait for a helicopter to bring your mom and say goodbye! -- now go kill yourself!!!" dude doesn't want to read a whole book, he's looking for some pictures of good placements so he can go climb jesus what's wrong with that? oh yah maybe he can't learn the intracacies of placing tricams from a picture, but hell, at least give some advice other than LEARN FROM SOMEONE LISTEN TO ME OR I'll FLAME YOU!!! jesus get over yourselves. why take the time to just post negative shit??

i have to admit, even i felt foolish defending him after that line; however since this thread was degenerating to another fuck majid, fuck edmontonalto thread, i figured i'd throw that little message in there to the troll cheerleaders. but i like your reasoning of procrastination. i'm sure these fuckers do have better things they could be doing.
