I've been watching many climbing movies recently and i noticed that some climbers (mostly boulderers) will wear two different shoes while doing their route, such as one shoe anasazi velcro and the other a v10. can anyone explain why they would do this, because i really have no idea

Certain performance shoes help with specific foot moves. In this case, one might wear a right foot shoe for a specific move that he knows he will need a good edging shoe (for example) while he has to make another specific move with the other foot. Either that or they're trying to make some kind of fashion statement.

Well, there are two reasons for this.
1. One foot is bigger than the other, so, one shoe fits better on one foot while another shoe fits best on the other.
2. One foot might require a nasty tight downturned toe, while the other foot does not.

Also, not that I have ever done it, but, I have a friend who, when new shoe time comes around, orders a pair of 41.5 and a pair of 41...once he gets the package, he simply keeps a 41.5 left and a 41 right, calls the company, says they sent him mismatched shoes, then sends the one mismatched pair back.

I guess you do what you have to.....Cool

Way to cheat the system Tongue Evolv fills orders with different sized shoes at a small extra charge. I'm sure your "friend" Wink wouldn't want to pay extra though.

I would assume that the main reason for doing this would be (as previously mentioned) the need for a specific shoe for a specific move. I personally do this quite often, especially when in really steep terrain, or when I need to really stick a specific heel hook. But I suppose there is always the fashion statement hehe.

I agree will the fit reasons. Due to ankle hardwear i wear a miura on my left and a tarantula on my right.

I often wear one left shoe and one right shoe. It just seems to work better for me. Cool

I was wearing two different shoes for an entire month before I noticed & contacted the resoler. He had given me back someone else's left shoe that was a size smaller. I had convinced myself that my shoe had somehow shrunk. And then I finally looked inside and saw the size. I took someone else's shoe with me to Squamish & it had a pretty good time.

it looks like it would be hard to put a shoe over another one.

We can convince ourselves of almost anything. My partner (who wears size 42.5 Testarossa's) had, on more than one occasion, picked up my (size 36) 'rossa's and attempted to squeeze his foot into it. He came pretty close to it, too, before he started wondering why his shoe seemed so tight that morning.
