this is a place to leave all of the dumbest questions someone has ever asked you about climbing, or you could drop your dignity and tell us a few of the dumbest questions you have bothered to ask. the dumbest question i usually get asked while working at the gym is.....is the difficulty of the wall rated by the color of rope? the answer in my mind is.....are you that dense there are walls that have overhangs that are the same color as the kiddy wall, use your brain before asking such a retarted comment. if you have asked this in your noob stage or prenoob stage of climbing its okay and i am sorry if i upset you.

My two favorites that I get a lot are: How do you get down? and Are these shoes supposed to fit this "tight?" (asked in reference to the gym shoes that I just said are snug and have the exact same size as their other shoes printed in big numbers on the side of the shoe)

lol we get those questions alot at my gym as well, one more that irritates me is when people who know nothing about climbing come up to you in a gym while you are working a problem and they think you are just trying to climb the wall so they offer advice on how you can get up a better way, and in your mind you are thinking, (i can climb circles around this guy so why is he trying to give me advice)

I'm thinking he's a 14yr old boy who went climbing at the gym for his birthday, and had a cake, and both of his friends come, and after they went to chuckie cheese's. But that's just a guess.

You say that like it's really an easy decision to make, but you completely fail to consider how much fun it really is to be an ass.

My thoughts exactly, laughing about dumb questions is one thing because god knows i have asked my fair share and will continue to but to insult the person is sad. i guess thats just coming from a hippie though, not the almighty strong climber that is climbordie7

climbordie7 wrote: the dumbest question i usually get asked while working at the gym is.....is the difficulty of the wall rated by the color of rope? It might not be the most astute question, but at least the guy was trying to use his brain. Does your gym have an introduction for new customers, or do you just let them wander in off the street and work it out? At least at my gym the staff goes over the rules, how to determine ratings, etc. Off the top of my head, I've heard... "What does that do?" (Be it a cam, belay device, etc.) "How do you get the rope up there?" "What do the colors mean?" (Regarding tape or holds in the gym.) You may look at a question as a display of a lack of knowledge. They're also an indicator of interest and engagement. For active learners, asking questions and trying to adapt old knowledge to new systems is a part of the process. While I won't say there are no dumb questions, I try not to be overly critical.

He probably answered the question in a respectful way in reality....right climbordie?!

In reply to: "Are you looking for God?" said the Old Lady on top of Mount Washington. I like this question. I think it may be very deep. "Old ladies" may know a thing or two about life that you at 18 don't. I like how most rock climbers in the world never learned what they know now they have just always known it and therefor never a newbie.

reread the post, i never said i actually said that in return i said that is what was going through my mind. i am actually a nice person and i usually explain things in a decent manor but sometimes in my mind i am thinking.....what on earth lead this person to ask such a rediculous question.
