Hey, thought I'd post up on my latest tune box set-up on El Cap. After years of the HAWK I just couldn't take the redundant commercials again, so I knew the iPod had to come along. First I got a case w/speakers:

EGO Waterproof Sound Case for iPod
http://www.lovemyego.com/

I found it at Costco for $80. Had to put in 4 new AA batteries once on a ten day climb.

Next I needed something to charge the iPod:
Solio - Portable Hybrid Solar Power Charger
http://www.solio.com/v2/

$100
Mixed results with this. First I realized that it doesn't come with a direct hookup for the iPod, so I had to take 3hrs and drive down to Merced to get a cigarrette lighter iPod hookup at Best Buy. On the climb we had to leave it open at the belays all day, then we'd get about 1/4-1/2 charge on the iPod that would last for a few hours in the evening. Next time I am going to just try and find a auxilary battery pack that runs off AAs. It did work great for getting a full charge on my phone though. (gotta call the wife a lot up there...)

people go on the walls so they could enjoy the nature. Why do you want to start a disco on pitch 15 ?

whatever floats your boat man. I use it to drowned out the sound of all the Harleys and Deisel Tour busses racing around the Valley all day and night!

personally I go crazy without tunes. If somebody has a problem with my jambox, I'll happily turn it down...

I once brought a DVD player up to Longs Peak for chilling out in the Boulder Field. I had lots of friends that night...

the ghetto blaster is a time-honored tradition on walls.

on the subject of Ipod charging, some good stuff for the DIY wall rats.

a bit complicated but useful: http://www.instructables.com/...-%22Battery%22-Pack/

a solar type:

A simple and cheap solution:

as a caveat, I have used none of these, and actually don't own an MP3 player. My money pays for the trips so I still use cassette tapes on walls.
