I have been reading about the controversy with climbing in Indian Creek, so I figure I better go there while I still can. I was wondering how I could maximize my enjoyment. What is the best season, place to stay? Any special items I should bring? How do I enjoy the classic cracks and avoid the crowds? Any advice is welcome.

Borrow as many cams as you can get your hands on-especially hand sizes. Some of the routes take the same 1 or 2 sizes of cams for the whole way! I love that place!

Ah Indian Creek...what a great place! If you have the opportunity and like cracks you MUST GO. Being in the desert, spring and fall are optimal and midweek will always have less people than weekends. Camping is near the crags (we camped at Beef Basin) and free, but there are no services, so go prepared. If you are seeking solitude there are many, many climbs, so a little walking should find you alone. Take lots of gear because the pitches are long, continuous and sometimes don't vary much in size for their entire length. If you don't have enough gear beg, borrow etc. from friends - you'll need it. Lastly, if in the area do a tower or two for a different and very memorable experience. Have Fun!!!

i think that article in climbing mag was pretty sensationalized for what its worth. best season is mid september until november, and then again in early march until early may. you can climb all year, but you have to chase the shade or the sun and you will be miserable at times in either off season. best place to camp is near the bridger jacks off beef basin road. the only places that are ever very crowded is supercrack buttress, battle of the bulge, and donnelly canyon. even so, you really will only have to wait in line to get on incredible hand crack, supercrack, generic crack, chocolate corner, and maybe on the sixshooters. there are so many climbs at indian creek that there is no reason to ever stand around and wait. bring every cam you can possibly get your hands on. also bring beer as you can only get pretend beer in utah. bring all the food and water you will need as it is quite a ways from the creek to any kind of amenity. make sure you can climb 5.10 or don't bother coming to the creek - you can do every route under 10 in a day pretty easily, and most of those are 9s.
