The worn out question

But re-asked with a good reason.

What kind of Rope to get?

Before the flaming comes, I ask because I want something that works better with my grigri in the 10-11mm range. I have a 10.2 beal atm and the damn thing doesn't work very well IMO.

It catchs fine, even makes me pay more attention to my leader because I have to really pay attention on paying out. It locks quite easily when paying out. When I go to lower the climber, or rap myself down it's VERY sensative. It only takes a hair diff in the handle to go from locked to free spool.

My local climbing shop was suggesting that it's the super smooth coatings on ropes nowdays to make them slide over rock smoother causing this, but offered no solution. I've searched and read for an hour, but decided to finally just post about it.

If you want a cheaper rope, Edelrid 10.3 Discovery is a good choice. It's pretty durable, but isn't available dry. It feeds very smoothly w/gri gri.

I know what your talking about with the Beal its gets better with age
Maxim ropes work veary well with a Grigri
OR you could use a ATC on your beal and have a better time

I have a bluewater accelerator 10.5 that I love. Catches great, burly enough for trad and building anchors, yet still rather light. Feeds good, but is not trigger finger sensitive on belay and rappel.

My daughter has a Stirling 10.2? that flies through the Grigri. Catches fine however.
