The DAS parka is awesome. I have one as well. Haven't needed it much due to my location (San Diego) but when I do use it, it's damn nice! It was on sale half a year ago or so for $150 too! I think normally it retails for $250 or so.

The DAS is awesome, so I re-iterate what the previous posts have said: get it! I got mine on sale for right around $100.
I have used it in minus 25 F temps without problem (of course I had under layers on).

I've got a mens' medium Mammut Stratus Hooded jacket in blue that has been worn about 10 times that I'd sell you for $100 (firm). It is in immaculate condition. It is really quite warm, but I got a smoking deal on a Wild Things Belay Parka that I couldn't pass up.

The Mammut jacket specs are at
http://www.mtntools.com/...hoodedjacketvest.htm

All in all, I'd say it is sweet - I wore it on a trip up Rainier and Baker this summer, where I got sleeted/hailed/snowed on for an entire day of crevasse rescue practice. I stayed toasty warm. I just wanted a different one, that's all (burgeoning gear whore here).

If you're interested, email me at janowiak.jared at gmail.com for pics.

if you are handy with a sewing machine you can make your own.
I used a jacket pattern from
thru-hiker.com

and materials from owfinc.com

probably spent $50 and 8 hours.
Its lined with 1.1 oz ripstop, has polarguard 3D insulation and the outer layer is Epic. All the zippers are waterproof.

I really like it.

the DAS is a little more pricey than 150, check out the Patagonia Micro Puff Pullover, it's around that price, packs down smaller than a football, is light as hell and uber toasty to boot. That being said, if you don't mind kickin' down $265 for the DAS, that thing is saaaa-weeeet, feels like you're standing in a furnace.

i love my patagonia micro puff - except it doesnt have double zippers so belaying in it with it zipped up makes things a little more clustered.

I got my DAS on Ebay for cheap. Works good.

My feeling is that on a belay jacket a hood is mandatory. Actually that's my feeling for all my jackets.

Best, Kim
