Actually, it looked diagonal to me. But all the stoppers he placed seemed like they were slotted down quite a bit, so they may not have been able to be removed with an upward/outward force.

Looked like he skipped a pin about 2/3 of the way up as well. or maybe I have had too many sierra nevadas...
