I saw a thread asking about the d80 versus D200 but can't find it now. For the last year, I have been looking at the D200 and I almost bought one. Instead, I went with the D80. Here were my reasons: Both cameras are more or less the same. The main difference is the sturdiness the D200 offers over the D80. The difference in sturdiness added quite abit of weight to the 200. Because I travel a lot, climb, and hike with my camera, I thought the 80's weight would make it a more feasible item to carry. The plastic body is made of the same material as the D70, which i carried up a few El-cap routes, on First ascent in China, and while traveling across Thailand on a bike. The body handled the abuse well, so a stronger body doesn't seem necessary for my use. Both cameras share the shame Sensor, which is th hearth of the camera really. When you consider this and see that the D80 is roughly 600.00 bucks cheaper, the D80 seems like a much better buy. It's true that the d200 get more frames per seconds, but the D80 gets 1000 to 2000 shots per battery while the d200 gets 450 to 500 shots. One disadvantage, when I switched from the D70 to the D80, I needed all new memory cards.

I love my d80 as well, but I'm gunning for the d300 that is set to be released soon. Full frame sensor and some other killer features.

You might want to look into the D300 again...no full frame sensor...but it does use a CMOS, the first consumer/budget CMOS not on a Canon. Sony will be pimping it out to whoever will buy it (Sony, Pentax, Olympus, Nikon). It will be interesting to see who will do what with it.

Just to eliminate any confusion, Nikon has just introduced both the D3 and the D300 - each significantly different cameras (and price tags!) And to the original poster, my change the title to reflect the post - D80 vs D200 tHANKS, DONE
