I want to get his "Complete Book of Big Wall Climbing" But his website is no longer on the web. Does anyone have a copy of this book that they wouldnt mind parting with? Or know where I can buy one? I am also interested in some of his other books, mainly that of "The homeless interpretation of quantum mechanics" If anyone has any news or knows where I can get this book(s) please let me know. I know he got kicked out of Yosemite but is he still running a website/bookstore?

Why on eart would you waste your money on that? Get the Long/Middendorf book Big Walls. Chongo is long on talk and short on climb. It's also painful to read at best. His "systems" are far to complicated. Since Chongo has barely made it up any walls with out either hitch hiking or being dragged up, I would suggest the other two authors really are experts. Just my opinion. Robert

I would highly suggest the book - having read the book, but only owning one chapter - the information in the Long/Middendorf book is good for groundwork/basics/no experience, however I find the Chongo book has a lot of useful things to learn. I feel SOME of his techniques are over kill, BUT knowing all the available systems/techniques gives you more options to decide on what works for you and adds more tricks to your bag. I don't see any point in not exposing yourself to all the available big wall literature and learning all you can learn and knowing all you can know. Ok, I feel I am needlessly lecturing here, but really I am just trying to neutralise the above post. **I'm sure if you ask around you will find out where to get it - try Supertopo if you haven't already**

Wierd that the site disappeared. In the newest Climbing, Chongo specifically mentions that he is keeping his website going. You mentioned an interest in his quantum mechanics book. As a physicist, I implore to you also read books from more established sources. Ive never read his book so I cant comment on it, but if it is full of errors I dont want another person propagating them. If, however, you are versed in traditional QM please get the book at let me know what you think.

It would seem that Chongo's site is back up. At least, it was working this morning. http://chongonation.com/AllBW.htm I read on supertaco that he'll be in austria for the next three months though, so if you want a book it may take even longer than usual.

A more automated system for getting the big wall book will be up soon and should make this effort eaiser. It is a great reference and worth the effort to purchase.

You can actually order Chongo's book by contacting his printer directly. While Chongo is in Europe this summer, books can be ordered by contacting Debbie by phone at 626-798-0127. Debbie has an ample supply of all the books that Chongo has written. (Chongo should be back in the states by October 1, 2006)

I liked Chongo's book and it is filled with lots of good info. But fully attired one get's the impression you will have 32 locking carabiners on your person securing everything including your underwear and socks...

I don't know how I survived into a comfortable middle age without first reading Chongo's 48 page thesis on carabiners. The book is a fun but awkward read. It's written by Chongo and edited by PTPP, which should give you a hint. The font limits you to about five pages per hour. Concise it ain't -- if Chongo had written the Gettysburg Address, we would still be waiting for Appomattox.

sometimes the details seem really....detailed....however most all of it makes considerably good sense. like which carabiners do better at certain tasks pre built belay stations why self belaying during aid lead makes sense details on setting up harnesses, every detail on where he's found it's best to place things importance of planning phase for big walls hauling systems It is definitely a large amount of information however I've found all sorts of really useful details and information that has improved/improves my experience on the rock. It's totally unique, full of information and worth the money; certainly not concise, but neither is chongo.

The website seems to be up and running. I tried to edit it down - I could have chopped it in about half - but Chongo wouldn't let me. "I have this way of saying stuff, Pete, and I want my book to be just like I talk in person." Anyway, it's a great book, and I would encourage you to buy it because you will learn lots of stuff, and you will also support Chongo who is my friend.
