I plan to order some small Tricams, and just tumbled over the question how to rack them. Is it better to have each one on a separate karabiner in order to have them easy accessible (maybe to place them with one hand out of a strange position), or is it perfectly fine for handling to rack a set of let's say four pieces per karabiner ? Unfortunately, i know nobody around here who owns Tricams, so i can't just test it out. And a search has not brought enlightenment to me. Thanks in advance for your advice. Best regards, JC

Rack several to a carabiner. You'll find Tricam slings don't offer much play or length, so you'll almost always attach a trad draw or sling to them before clipping. No point in giving each one its own biner.

Like others, I rack 3-4 on a single biner, like my other chocks. They can be tricky to place one-handed due to the floppiness of the nylon. Many people add something to stiffen the sling, and aid one-handed placement. I wrap the first few inches below the metal with electrical tape. It is just stiff enough to place, but still flexible over edges.

yea, i usually have two caribiners and rack the smaller three on one and then the large three on the other. i have the first six sizes and use them all quite a bit. but i like it that way because theni konw if i need a smaller size tricam i grab biner #1 and if i need a larger size i grab biner #2, works for me and welcome to the world of tricams!

3-4 on a single decent sized biner works well. I usually carry 5 of them, so I have branched out to two biners. 5 on a single biner just gets a little too cumbersome I find.

That's the key right there! A good sized biner! Personally I like the wire gate Ovals, your milage may vary though...

I have a buddy who cut strips of vinyl siding and taped them to his tricam slings. It makes them ridiculously easy to place one handed, even over your head. If you love tricams, try that modification. You may just cream your jeans.

I rack mine (pink-purple) on one biner, my partner has two sets that he racks 2 to a biner (pink-red, brown-purple) with the larger ones (blues, white, green, and orange) 2 to a biner or singles depending on the pitch. sounds like someone needs more practice with their one handed placements ... one handed removals take a bit more talent.

I rack one to a 'biner. No problem placing them one-handed. I probably use Tricams more than any other piece of gear around here. Std rack included 2 Pink, 2 Red, 1 Brown, and 1 Orange (#5). Mal

There was an old thread on TradGirl about racking Tricams and somebody had a perfect answer. To paraphrase: Take your pink tricam and put it on it's own biner; clip to rack. Take all the others and put them on one big biner; toss them in the box with all the other crap you don't use.

Poppycock. I use red tricams as often as pink. On occasion, I'll place a brown as well, although much less commonly. Usually I take doubles on pink and red, and a single brown if I know Tricams are on the menu. On the plus side, you can usually eyeball a few similar medium-sized nuts and leave them off your rack, as Tricams work excellently in passive position.

A rack is a personal thing and to each their own, both as personal preference and climbing style/type. But more than any other piece tricams seem to be very location specific. I hardly see them on the west coast and can't think of a time I've ever said "damn, I wish I had a brown tricam right now".

Well, then stop being a hypocrite and assuming the other sizes aren't used, as your previous post intones (smiley added to emphasize elbow-elbow-wink-wink tone intended). Live and let live is fine by me, but you gotta let live for it to work. Although I will agree that you don't really need Tricams out west. I was just in Arizona for two months and I think I placed a single red one the whole time I was there (climbed ~2x/week). That said, don't you damn dare come to the east coast without 'em. There are plenty of routes both in North Carolina and the Gunks where Tricams glow in little beams of heavenly light, and without them protection would not be possible.

I would toss the pink as well and get a yellow C3. This will solve all your problems.
