I am 13 years old and I climbed at Sacramento Pipe Works for the first time and I climbed a 5.10. Is that good for never climbing before?

Depends on the gym. I've heard the ratings at SPW are kind of soft, so if you'd sent the (5.14a) purple route onsight that might mean something out here in the f.a.k.e. real world. As it stands, however, you're perhaps qualified to top-rope a 5.2 on actual rock. . . . Maybe.

SInce you are 13 and this sounds like a 13-year-old question, people should be cutting you more slack. But, please understand, that this question is probably the 1 millionth time this has been asked.

Now, to your question...if indeed you truly climbed a 5.10 (without falling), that would be very good, but it doesn't sound likely. One of my students said he climbed a V7, and I said "Wow, that's great", fully knowing that he probably didn't. Now the kid is strong, but it turns out he used more holds that were not on route. It didn't matter to me whether he thought he climbed a V7, so I didn't say anything. I mean, he is only 9.

My point is this, grades do not matter. A lot of people can flail themselves up a 5.10, but that doesn't mean they "climbed" it. My suggestion to you is, if you want to climb a lot and get better is to pay attention to how you look climbing it, not on whether you get to the top. That might sound superficial, but if you watch better climbers, they look fluid and make climbing seem easy. This is a combination of strength, technique and experience.

Good luck.

Are 13 year olds allowed on the board? Did you get parent consent?

Yes, it is good. Sounds like you enjoyed it, too, which is more important.

No one cares that you're 13 or that you climbed a 5.10. The only important detail is that you care, and if your satisfied with how you climbed the route.

Describe how you felt climbing this 5.10, explain to us your thoughts (if any)? What types of things did you do to allow you to advance to the next move (technique)?

In order to earn your cookie you must provide more details.

Even then though- a lot of people still wont care.

This thread has been running for a little while now.
ace, not to sound harsh, but i don't think we should really care to comment on your accomplishment, because (whether substantiated or not) it sounds like either bragging or a cry for attention, neither of which many people like.
what DOES matter is whether you enjoyed it and how YOU feel about your progress, and you don't need some forum to validate that for you (i hope).
i DO certainly hope you're enjoying climbing itself though, for the love of the sport.
