This spring break i am considering going on a climbing trip, as i will be(or already am) sick of climbing in the gym. I hope to be leaving either March 14 or 15 and returning the 21st or so. There are 3 main considerations, in order: 1. Price. I will be flying to wherever from Fairbanks, AK. Not Cheap. Proximity to a larger city will help immenesely. 2. Temperature/Climate. Preferably above 50 degrees, not unbearably wet. 3. Climbing appropriate to my level / interests. I'm not big on bouldering. Lead 5.9- sport, want to learn trad. Suggestions? I am considering JTree, right now i can get tickets to LAX for $500. Thanks aaron

Look at getting tickets on Ebay or priceline. I got a ticket to Anchorage in August for $320. You should look at Utah it has a lot of climbing. Like desert, limestone, granite, quartzite, and cobbles.

utah is awesome, the only problem that i see with utah is that in march there is nowhere to climb near an airport. march you have to go to southern utah, other than that i say utah rules for climbing other times of the year.

if you go to Jtree, the climbs will probably be sand bagged, when I went a 5.7 felt like a yosemite 5.10a so be careful if you trad, they don't have much sport at all there, smith rock is a great place to learn trad and sport, you might have trouble getting a flight in there though. Good luck

Vegas baby YEAH!!! I KNOW you can get a cheap ticket there. Red rocks has it all: sport, trad, and bouldering. If you rent a car Bishop is only 4 hours away. So is J-Tree.

Go to Red Rocks! Las Vegas has one of the larger airports in the country, but the climbing is unreal!

I second that Red Rocks. I spent my last Spring Break there. We drove from Austin, TX and made cool stops along the way (Grand Cayon, Hoover Dam, etc.)

The USA is nice, but maybe you want to go further? Try Mexico. Go to www.elpotrerochico.com It is a meca for sport climbing and multi pitch routes. Check it out.

Vegas, by that time it will be very nice out! Course, I might be a little biased, but Red Rocks is definitely a climbing destination worth going to. I don't know what the weather will be like, but Tucson is also a destination worth considering. It should be about the same as Vegas. You can always fly to Phoenix, Tucson is 90 miles south by rental car. Tucson has Mt. Lemmon and the Cochise Stronghold (further south) to name two....
