Watched (and bought) the new P Lowell's DVD about Sharma and others sending really amazing lines in fantastic places. Beautifully edited video, Amazing routes and places... The motivation that pushes Chris is amazing. His new route beautiful, but the footage of "Las Pontas" is insane...60 feet falls in the water after a sideway dyno...with hraging waves. Impressive.

yeah, i pre-ordered it too. bigup's site says they have add 30 minutes of additional footage and so they aren't shipping out until the 12th. bummer about the wait, but 30 more minutes will be cool.

What is it like to do a climb over and over again (100+ times)? I like novelty and so would get extremely bored I think. The guy is working on so many different levels that I can barely relate. The screening was fun: a well made look into the life of a world class climber.

Try for yourself? Every time is different, and the satisfaction of sending a hard worked route is great...but then again it's subjective. Try for yourself, as with pretty much anything in life.

Las Pontas is amazing-- and the camera work is superb. But I have to say that I preferred the segment they televised for Wide World of Sports. They edited all the footage of that climb into a single short, maybe 20 minutes long. Much tighter and cleaner than here where it is stiched into an hour's worth of other climbs. Still, all of the climbing footage is wonderful, from Ceuse to wherever. And Sharma comes off as a super nice, Santa Cruz stoner who's good to children, loved his mom, and is always in a good mood. But man, I started looking at my watch after awhile. This could've been a good twenty minutes shorter (and I suspect that it will be, for those of you watching it 2nd time on dvd with a remote in hand). Sharma is an amazing climber but less interesting as an on-screen personality, and the few moments that the Spanish climber Riera is on, he steals the show. Cool climbing porn, but less successful as a film.

I totally disagree about the "filler" dialogue. All the talking that is normally in climbing films (connecting with the rock, blah blah) gets pretty redundant, but i thought the dialogue in this film (and it is a true film, not just typical climbing porn) was completely different. Most people are watching this and looking for a ton of sends and huge numbers and whatever, but it is essentially a biopic about a full time climber and what it is like for that to completely be your life. I also disagree that this doesnt work as a film, i could totally see this being embraced by a non climbing audience. Showed it to two of my friends who dont climb (one of which is a cinematographer) and they were quite impressed. Every shot was epic, the music was a total departure from typical climbing vids, and i totally dug the storyline. While every moment wasnt dedicated to climbing, the climbing that was shown was ridiculous, particularly the clark mtn proj. I have to say that my favorite part was Sharma going for the dyno on 3 Dgrees while still clipped into the bolt, hilarious!

Yeah, that scene made me chuckle (dyno while clipped to the bolt). I was suprised by how short it was! and am a little bit suprised that some other people thought it was boing. This is the first film i actually bought instead of mooching off my friends! 5 out of 5

Go to their website, bigupproductions.com, and you can download the extra footage for free...they screwed it up on the dvd.
