well at our local gym we got a board going with jokes and crap. One of them was Things not to say while belaying. my contribution is " This rope is pretty good, I don't know why someone would throw it away."

welcome to rc.n00b! hang in there, they bark worse than they bite. Although, they bite, too. Actually, if angry bothered to m3ATBOMbz your thread, you could take it as a compliment "King of Clever" is a mo' better moniker than ZackP, anyways. Maybe you should change your name?

Don't take it personally. He's from Colorado, after all. They're entitled.

Actuall, angry made a point... This topic has already been done, enough that we stopped caring about it. I would bet that it was one of the first 3 responses of a simple search..... But, please, stay away from his ass. He has this thing for M3xican food, it's gross, just plain gross...

This is actually one that EVERYONE should know (and I'm sure most climbers on here already know this pitfall, but I thought it couldn't hurt if even one beginner learns something from it)... If you don't already, then don't forget it... Your life could depend on it, NO BS. "Take up slack!" The problem with this is that it's very possible for the belayer to only hear the word "Slack", when you actually want the opposite. SAY ONLY ONE OR THE OTHER, "Take" OR "Slack". I saw a guy take a 150-foot whipper because he kept yelling for his second to "Take up slack". I'm pretty sure he was a complete idiot though, as he started a full-on fist fight with his climbing partner when they topped out.

"Up rope" ftw taking in slack "Slack" ftw when you want...well, slack.

"Up rope" ftw taking in slack "Slack" ftw when you want...well, slack. I personally think "Take" is better then "Up Rope", because it is a single syllable and it can't be confused with anything else, but I guess both should work fine.

...a microscope was involved. *dead* Hey fshizzle, play a game with me. It's called, "you know your [sic] a climber when..." Like: ...you reach for your chalkbag during your annual review! ...and the chalkbag is actually there! ...you go to the library "at my school" and only see aretes, dihedrals and crimps in the brickwork! ...you mantle into bed! ...you climb stone-face fireplaces and take photos of it! [Peter Griffin voice]Yeah![/Peter]

I just realized that my sister actually does work with microscopes. I wasn't even thinking that originally. I love accidental factual content.
