Club Name - Need Opinions

A club offers the following activities to its members:

climbing - indoor & outdoor
kayaking
canyoning
mountain biking
hiking
caving

What would be the most appropiate name for such a club? Don't confuse this with the Best or Coolest name, just the name most suited for the activities that the club offers.

Cheers,

TF

i'd say with the options given, the only (and most obvious) one is the outdoor club, but i like oldsalt's "Outdoor Adventure" club idea more, even though most colleges i know of use that name for their clubs. it's a good choice though.

By far the most common name for the type of club you're in is "<insert university here> Outing Club." Anything with the words "outdoors" and "adventure" tends to attract a lot of gumbies. If that's what you're looking for, by all means go for it.

sadly, the actual name of the club in question is the mountaineering club.

worse still is the club is located in northern NSW australia. mountaineering? the closest mountain is in another country.

evidently i am the only person who thinks the name is misleading, inacurate and just plain stupid considering the clubs activities and location.

You could call it the Stormtroopers or Chuck Norris Contract Killers Inc. and it would still attract gumbies. It's a school climbing club.

almost nobody. the reason i am pushing for a name change.

There was an Outing Club in the 70's when I was in college. They outed three guys and cast suspicion upon the entire girls basketball team.

My school (the first school to have an outing club) had an over-arching organization called...The ***** Outing Club. Within that organization there were several more specialized clubs for people that liked to boat or climb or cross country ski, etc. Our mountaineering club was actually the go sport climb at Rumney club, but it didn't really matter.

I was in a similar posistion last year. We changed our name because we were adding additional activities to our club.

I think mountaineering is probably not the right direction though because you do things that aren't purely based on mountaineering, I'd go with Outdoor Adventure or something similar.

Outing Clubs have a long and rich history, especially in the Northeast US.

The Dartmouth Outing Club still maintains a cool hiking lodge and trails on Mt. Moosilauke. The Harvard Outing Club put up many of the early routes in the White Mountains, and maintains a cabin near Huntington Ravine on Mt Washington. They also put up the badass Harvard Route on Denali.

The Exeter Outing Club produced the late Bob Bates, who was on the first American Expedition to K2.
