I just recently purchased a new pair of Grivel Rambocomp EVO's and need antibots for them. The Grivel models are about $37.00, but I have heard through the grapevine that they do not fit my asymetrical crampons as well as the older straight bar design. Anybody out there know some tricks on how to fashion some home made anti-balling plates? any suggestions would be great! Thanks Chris

Use an old magic carpet for the plastic. It flexes, doesn't crack in the cold and snow wont stick to it.

Yeah, I've used an old crazy carpet before and they work great. Will last for ever. Easiest way to attach them is either zip ties or some thin wire.

I have seen the plastic from a gallon of milk cut and used for antibots.

Tried it. It didn't last 3 pitches, especially with rocky ground. I hear 2 litre pop bottle plastic works, but haven't tried. I gave up after my first couple of failures. PT

Another alternative is to use the rubber from a tractor inner tube (you'll have to do some container diving at your favorite tire shop). It's thick and strong and closely resembles the material used for the "real" antibots. If you cut it slightly oversized, it will bow out when mounted, and thus flex when touched, which will help to actively displace the snow. Attach with wire.

i've got the same crampons. although the antibots aren't really curved like the crampons, they do work absolutely fine. my climbing partner and i both use 'em and have absolutely no problems. if you bought them from mountaingear.com, just call and explain that you would like them to send you the antibots if they still have them. that's what i had to do. they complied at no extra charge. if you wanna make your own, i'd use a rubber automotive floor mat. you can buy one cheap at walmart, and they're exactly like the material that the real grivel antibots are made of. maybe you could connect them using 1/16" wire going through the rubber and wrapped around the frame-rail in 10 or 12 spots. good luck. btw, they're great crampons!

Thanks you guys! I fashioned antibots using a truck tire inner tube and attached them to the crampons using picture frame wire. They have been on the crampons for about three weeks now. They have held up quite well and now have about 10 climbs under them...so far so good! thanks for all the suggestions and help. It took some time to get the design right, but in roughly 4-5 hours (start to finish) I had a pair of antibots for the Rambocomps.
