well, there certainly ARE some mean spirits in the world, cracklover. How else would you account for all those frightening, middle of the night moments when books go sailing off shelves seemingly of their own devise? Or ghosts who just will not stop haunting even though they should be well aware that they are scaring people?

I don't think the majority on Rc are mean, just that there is always a mean '(not)know it all' on every thread. Check out the recent posts list and see how few exceptions there are, on anything over, say 8 posts. Some n00b, full of themself without a clue, embarassing themselves and never knowing it. might be the adolescent nature of this site, lot's of them will get better...but, fo the genral good, is it bad to draw attention to those lapses?

There's one of those events on almost every thread, on RC. it's not like that, ( there's generally space between the nonsense) anywhere, else. Maybe "mean" should just be called naive agression?

The two sites are no way equal beasts and it has nothing to do with moderation.
There's a dynamic to the internets. It some point all most of the questions will be asked, so if everybody used the search function there'd be little to no posting about on-topic stuff. It'd be all bitching or butt-hurtedness.
Plus when somebody does do a search and then bumps the tread, my first thought is always, "why are they bring up this old stuff?"

i'm not so much a fan of the old threads being bumped either. i'd rather see someone start a new thread with a quote from the old with their corresponding question about the subject that couldn't be found in the old thread.

Yeah, do a search in the aid and big wall forum for some of PTPP's old threads. Lots of info in that forum on the subject. Basically though what you want is merely an upside down hauling system.

rc .com is not in anyway a rock climbing site - its like a rock climbing porn site. nice pictures, thread after thread about who climbs harder and who is smarter, blah blah blah .
You also come to rc .com to feel better about yr self. After visiting rc.com, you think to yrself - wow these guys are total fucking retards.
And then you go to ST for real climbing advice, from people who actually know about climbing and have actually climbed before.

Someday you will cease being a NOOB, and will realize that you can have a rewarding lifetime of climbing without getting any "advice" off the internet, or without buying into the latest gear fads. The "Better Way" is to ignore the techno-weenies (fuck russian aiders, fuck link cams, fuck adj. daisies), and intardweb spray ("I climbed it with Higgins, Ament and Whymper), pack one, and actually go climbing.
