I just came across the thread on bouldering at the British Virgin Islands http://www.rockclimbing.com/...8;page=unread#unread and thought it looked awesome. I'm looking for a destination for Spring Break that could combine a little fun in the sun with some waterfront bouldering. Besides the BVI's, can anyone recommend some good beach bouldering destinations? Don't worry about whether they'll be warm during Spring Break, as I could always plan a trip some other time during the year.

NorCal to do it cheap. BVI if you want to spend some cash on a dream vacation.

i just got back from costa rica (pacific side) for a surfing trip. there was no easy access to real climbing to speak of, but there were a lot of boulders along some gorgeous beaches. if good bouldering was a second priority to great surf or nice beahces, i'd say it's a great place to be. HOWEVER, winter is the dry season, so i don't know for sure if they'd be starting to get into the wet season by spring break or not.

Is Humboldt State in Arcata? I bouldered at a couple areas when I passed through Northern Cal last fall. Moonstone Beach and Houda Point aren't too far from Arcata, and are a lot of fun. Lost Rocks is about an hour north, has fantastic bouldering, but has some access issues. I'd try to check on the current situation before you went. Bouldering on the NorCal beaches is a very unique and occasionally eerie experience. Quiet, peaceful, all alone. Then the fog rolls in and you can only see about 100 feet around you. Hope to get back sometime.

Pirates Cove is a last resort for Orange County locals who can't make the drive out to J-Tree or Riverside County. It's hardly worth planning a trip around, let alone more than an afternoon of sandy, wet bouldering.
